... and, more importantly, anyone give it more than 10 minutes before switching it off?

I have to say, this one was a massive disappointment. I saw a story about this on Good Game and it really tied in well with the look and feel of the movie - fast paced, frentetic and lots of punchy-kicky action. The demo on the PS3 was a huge download (~1.5GB) and I'm happy to say the look of the thing is first class, but, my god! the game itself was a total disaster!

Most of what I got to see was cut scene, delivering you into the middle of a melee which is more or less an exercise in button mashing at the end of which the machine takes over and drops you into another scene where sychronised button mashing (in time to the on screen cues) is the order of the day. Only you're not really told that you have to mash the square button to slide under the security gate and, I confess with the camera bouncing around I missed the little icon at the bottom corner of the screen. It was three times through before I saw it - and I still failed twice more.

Next scene in the underground tunnels was supposed to be a shoot out. Unfortunately I missed the fact that the trains are running in this tunnel and while duking it out with a police I was mowed down from behind. The fact that the police was also a victim was no comfort. I did wonder about the AI here. The police ought to have seen the train coming and was preventing me from moving out of the way (I couldn't turn around to see the train coming even if I'd wanted to) but just one one of numerous annoyances here. For some reason being in a fist fight meant not being able to shoot at the other police despite being shot at myself.

The load screen suggests manouvering the person closest to me into the path of the bullets but since the camera had me locked into a side on view it wasn't in the slightest bit possible to work out which way to turn to do this (as it turned out, the train took care of that issue). Another reload and I can pop a couple of shots off at the people shooting at me before being set upon on the tracks. A couple of fists and he's down as the train approaches and I guess (there's no way to know) which direction to run before the thing mows me down again. So it's trial and error.

In the end, if you've played Dragon's Lair you'll get some idea how this demo plays out. For me, I really cannot stand this kind of "gameplay" and won't be bothering with this one again. Interested to know if anyone else tried it and how they felt about it? Anyone get more from it than me?

well i had it on for 15 min but most of that was due to loading time, i agree very disappointing.

Yeah, exactly the same here, looks fairly good graphically, shite gameplay, i lasted about the same as ajm, 10 mins was enough !

You're kidding... Dragon's Lair style gameplay should have been left in the 80's.

That's a real shame.

For me the most disappointing thing was the driving. The old Lombards Rally game was better and that was near the 90's. The demo was pretty easy to finish too and seems to follow very strict game play. Lets hope the real game is better but i don't like the chances.

I had a quick look at it, Dragons Lair, yeh those were the days hey. At least its something different I guess, I didnt know what was going on they dont let you in on how to play it much. Might have another look at it tonight.
