relliksalta Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Hi all, Firstly good to see that DTV is back up and running I have a question re. my Onkyo 705 and playback of CD's using my Pioneer DV400. It's connected via HDMI and it appears that with the TV off and playing back a CD via the DVD input leads to dropouts of audio every 5 seconds. The cutout lasts 2 seconds and then audio comes back again. This goes on and on. I've found that turning the TV on results in the audio dropouts being fixed and I can even turn the TV off again and all is still good. Is this some kind of HDMI video handshake issue ? I've connected via Digital optical and coax for audio only using the DV400 via the CD input and everything is fine like that. Very strange and and advice would be appreciated.
mad89 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I read something in my 605 Manual the other day about possible issues with sending audio via HDMI, with the TV off. I dont remember exactly what it was but it was definitely there. Id hazard a guess though, that even though you have connected optical and coaxial out of your DV400, it is still sending audio via HDMI, hence your issues with the TV off. What happens when you have the TV off, select 'CD' as the input source on the 705, then play a music CD? Still no luck?
relliksalta Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 No that works fine.. a coax cable going to Coax inout #1 which I've assigned to 'CD' works fine with the TV off. I'm guessing its just a HDMI thing and maybe gives me more reason to buy a dedicated CD player
OzMillsy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Last night, I've found that I get no sound at all, bitstreaming cd's over hdmi to the 705 . :-S Which is weird, because the 705 lights report HDMI/PCM/2ch as all detected, but, no sound is coming out. I didnt have alot of time to further troubleshoot, so I just ran off the analogs.
