I have a PAL PS3 and really want to be able to play Blu-ray from around the world. Especially the US. has anyone come up with a firmware or hack that will enable me to play discs from other countries?

any info or help appreciated!

In fact, when my PS3 broke down and I sent it to Sony, the first thing they did was check for tampering/modification. If it had failed that test, I would have had to pay freight both ways to get it back.

At least they tell you that, my 360 went back 3 times for RROD, at no time would they tell me what was wrong or what they repaired, even after politely informing them that I did not "rent" the console off them, I own it....they did not care, can't imagine Sony being any different.

And back on thread, bennobee is right. I believe there is a New Line region crack from some titles by pressing triangle or something, but I'm not exactly sure, one of our more learned members may be able to point you in the right direction of the other thread.. ;)

I have a feeling Sony will make the PS3 BD region free at some stage, especially when other manufactures start offering region free BD players in stores

Good point :( , but Sony would want to be at the front when it comes to BD as it's their baby...

I'd like to think of that as true, but, Sony like other major movies houses, have a vested interest in making things available when they want, not when we do.

I'm hoping that more and more movie making companies decide that they could not be bothered with region encoding anymore (thankfully in part, to piracy, torrents and the internet) and thus leaving the more stubborn studios like Fox and Sony to discard it.

The other upside, like we have seen at the movies over the past couple of years, means less waiting time for titles as most major movies now having coordinated world wide releases.

Sony make BR region free

about the same time as pigs fly guys......

Sony's mission statement:

I feel the need

the need for greed

The same thing was said about Sony in regards to certain (piracy favored) file formats.....
