Whitehawk Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Was Die another day on 7HD meant to be in DD5.1 tonight? I have a DGTEC DG-HD3800 and I'm trying to get the DD5.1 sound to come through my receiver but I have been unable to get it to work. My problem has been finding programming which I know is in DD5.1 format. I have my DGTEC set to AC3-PCM sound. I have tried both the HDMI cable to my receiver as well as the coax for the audio. Any help greatly appreciated.
seemoe Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 Was Die another day on 7HD meant to be in DD5.1 tonight? not sure if it was meant to be in 5.1 but it wasn't
evildmt Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Since I hooked up DTV to my PC, and I have optical and stuff not one program has been in 5.1. Everything has been 2.0, and this has been the past few weeks.
BigBadBaz Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Lately a lot of programs have shown on my system as being DD 5.1 (as apposed to DD 2.0), but still there has been no sound from the rears. The problem with this is, that with my system if it detects a 5.1 input the sound cannot be changed to ProLogic II as it can be with DD 2.0.
evildmt Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 (edited) I want some DD5.1 show's for christ sake.. sick of matrixed 2 channel crud. Californication is suppose to be DD5.1 but it still came up as AC 2.0 in the .TS stream.. WHHHYYY!?! Edited November 30, 2008 by evildmt
EvanOnTheGC Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 The Knights of Prosperity on 7HD tonight is in DD5.1 Evan :->
Sambo90 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Where you have NFL down for 5.1 (CBS only). The Giants/Cardinals games from 2 weeks ago was in 5.1. Although it didn't sound anywhere near as good as some of the CBS games. Be nice if they were 5.1 every week.
TomW1503561432 Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 The Tuxedo on Nine HD was in 5.1 last night.
seemoe Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 not updating anymore, this was for 2008.
hingo Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Unfortunately it looks as if WinTV has taken a backwards step and have stopped showing their movies in 5.1. They were the only regional station to broadcast in 5.1, maybe I praised them too soon.
seemoe Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Will there be a new list for 2009? if someone else wants to they can but with channel 7 in perth broadcasting 24/7 fake 5.1, channel 9 doing no 5.1 at all, that only leaves 10, which will no longer have a HD channel soon; i dont see the point
TomW1503561432 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Nine HD in Melbourne still only broadcasts in 5.1 when it is actually in 5.1 - of which Stuart Little is in, right now.
SDL Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Have they stopped doing the cricket in 5.1 on 9HD? Just thought the Aus v NZ match the other day was 2.0 - will check tonights when I get home.

betty boop Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 multiplicity is in DD5.1 on 9HD woohoo ! first dd5.1 movies I've seen on 9 for ages ?
borisx Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 This thread is quite elderly by now, what with all changes in broadcasting, but new updates would still be helpful. I live in Tasmania, and have confirmed with the ABC and SBS that they do not, and will not, broadcast in DD 5.1. I've searched all available channels here over a couple of weeks, and have heard no 5.1. The DD sign on the TV's "info" often shows, but it must be only DD 2.0, because on my Topfield TRF-2400 HD PVR, the AC-3 light never glows any more. I know I've seen it on in the past, but maybe that was when ABC had its ABC HD channel. They only have News in HD now, which is only bullets and politicians, so it might as well be mono. From this thread, broadcasting on the mainland occasionally has 5.1 audio, so could I suggest that you 'state your State' when announcing this exciting info please?
digitalj Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 on the North Coast of NSW, there is 1 broadcaster with 5.1, GEM, but it's "fake" 5.1 which means that the broadcaster has taken 2.0 source and converted it to 5.1. One has the ability to do 5.1 as it's audio is 448Kbps, but I've never seen it say 5.1 on my AVR.

Formula 1, is 5.1 on ONE but not on SC-ONE, I occasionally record from both sources just in case one fails.
betty boop Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 strangely enough sleeping wiht the enemy on onehd is in DD 5.0
digitalj Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 DD 2.0 here there's no reason SC10 can't do 5.1 on ONE as they have the audio at 448Kbps.

digitalj Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 (edited) yes dont understand why they dont do it, and where I am why only DD5.0 why leave off the 0.1 surely not a big challenge to do DD5.1 maybe they thought people wouldn't notice the lack of an LFE channel and that therefore they could increase the quality of the other 5 channels by leaving it out? By that I mean 448/6=74.5Kbps per channel vs 448/5=89.5Kbps per channel, i.e. an increase of bits per channel by 15Kbps each. Maybe the government needs to introduce a a DD5.1 quota and have a clause stating that it must be original 5.1, i.e. upmixing 2ch to 5.a won't count towards the quota?
