What are the best settings for the 508 ?

I use the LX Starter settings rather than the D65 setting which are not as good and have a red push. Note "Starter" refers to settings to use before you get your set professionally calibrated (if you ever choose to do so). They are NOT break in settings (which you don't need as these are good for break in as well).

I definately get motion blur on my LX508A, not every tv show, but alot do.

The buzzing is also starting to piss me off, especially at night with low volumes, i sit at 2.7 metres away and thats my limit due to space.

Good to know regarding the motion blur - are you using the Bumtious' LX Starter settings?

Mine buzzes a bit but I rarely notice it. If you haven't seen them already, there are quite a few posts on buzzing in this forum that may provide for tips.

I watch House SC10HD here in Canberra on my Kuro & can't say i have noticed much in the way of motion blur. The movement in House is very slow most of the time

so can't imagine it's too taxing on the Kuro's processing.

However throw up the fast scrolling titles on Spicks & Specks & they are very hard to read, I think my 50inch Marantz handles the scrolling text better unless the ABC has sped up the titles more recently.

It's a double episode of House tonite (I think its the final one for the season too) so I'll have a good luck at the blurring if it exists. Well it may not be tonite as I'll record on the Beyonwiz & watch later.

Cheers Mark

I'm going to watch House tonight on the Kuro in HD and simultaneously record it (in SD) on my Topfield. The Topfield is connected to my CRT and I plan to re-watch the show on the CRT and try to make a comparison from memory.

Keen to hear your comments after you watch the show.

BTW, how close do you sit?

All plasma has motion blur .. 16 ms lag I think ... and trails on some fast high contrast stuf whether you see it or not.

LCDs can easily have 30ms motion blur and I think 100ms is possible depending on the scaling and processing. that 2-6 times the lag so its a bigger issue for them.

I've just checked my Ice guide & it doesn't show House in HD tonite :(

I'll record the HD stream anyway & see if ice is wrong!

I sit around 3m from the screen..

All plasma has motion blur ...

I really started this thread to try to improve the motion handling of my LX, if possible, via its settings. I agree there will be some blur but I'm keen to reduce it as much as possible!

Actually on setting, has anyone noticed a difference in setting PureCinema to Standard rather than Off? (I still keen to get an answer to this question... )

Well watching House last night I was fairly satisfied with the picture, no problems with motion blur that I could see. I do feel that House on SC HD is a softer picture than it used to be, it seems to have lost some of that crispness that it used to have. It looked like some of the closeup shots were out of focus! I don't know if this is done deliberately. I was watching the 28/5 episode (ie last weeks) the repeat episode from the week before seemed to be a little better PQ wise.

So don't know what's going on there. I have pure cinema OFF as well as all noise reduction off etc. The picture is processed as little as possible. I am using the LX starter settings off avforums that I have modified slightly. The test loops look stunning as you would expect. Blu-ray looks awesome.

Yes - I also basically had no problems with motion blur on this episode. (There was a bit but you really had to look for it and it was pretty brief.) Actually if you still have last weeks episode, I can remember them walking down a corridor (with the camera facing them, a few steps ahead) and for me motion blur was quite evident. Iirc, that episode had a number of other instances where I thought motion blur was pretty bad.

Anyway, thanks heaps for taking the time to have a look and reply. Yes, the test loops look great :D Don't have a bluray player yet...

Thanks....one thing about the networks & digital tv i have noticed is that they are not really interested at this stage in transmitting the best PQ as there are no ratings /advertising advantages in giving out the best PQ only ratings based on numbers watching which are mainly analogue viewers or via Foxtel. They really vary the standards from woeful to superb at will. The differences are not noticeable on old sets. So unless there is a top rate reference program transmitted at the highest bit-rate we may be be unable to determine if our Plasma settings are optimal or not .I expect to be dissapointed watching the so called HD programs as not all are from the best productions or transmitted at the best PQ .From next year the networks are doing 2 SD sub channels so HD will probably die out as there are no "laws/rules" to enforce the 20 hours originally promised . HD now is not HD anyway for most of he transmissions.
