I have a Samsung DVD Recorder (DVD-VR355), and there is a firmware update available for it, but I am a little unsure on how to install it on my player. There is no instructions in the manual for installing firmware updates, nor is there anything on the web page about it, so I was just wondering if anyone on here has had experience with this sort of stuff, and if they can provide some advice on how to apply the firmware update. Since there's no serial port on the device the other common method is to just copy the firmware file (VR355PAL.RUF after unzipping it) into the root directory of a CD-R, inserting the disc into the drive and follow the instructions on screen. I haven't got one of these myself but this is how I have updated firmware in other brands of DVD players/recorders over the years, from memory I think one may have required switching off then on after inserting the disc but try just sticking the disc in the unit without a power cycle first. If all else fails, ring Samsung tech support.
Tbone88 Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 I have tried burning the file to a cd (mind you I am on a mac, so not sure if that changes anything) and the player says that the disc is unreadable. I will try burning it from a windows computer later on tonight, and see if that works. It is really annoying me though, as anything I record to dvd is out of sync, and I am hoping this will fix it (the source isn't out of sync, the recording is out of sync), and if it doesn't, I will then call samsung. Any other suggestions? Anyone else have any experience with Samsung players?
