digitalj Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 I just decided to do a search to see if Star Wars was going to be on Blu-ray and I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Trilogy-Ep...y/dp/B000PMG16U It says: Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes I - III) [blu-ray] (2002)Director: George Lucas Rating Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available. It appears no release date has been given, but a glimmer of hope none-the-less
Volunteer Kazz Posted May 27, 2008 Volunteer Posted May 27, 2008 It appears no release date has been given, but a glimmer of hope none-the-less Nup, it's just Amazon's way of getting people on their mailing list, they've been doing this for years.
Arecsa Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Merely a place holder. Star Wars will eventually come out, but with Fox and Lucas at the helm here I'd expect to see a ridiculous price put on it. I'd only be interested in the original trilogy anyway.
digitalj Posted May 27, 2008 Author Posted May 27, 2008 Is it that time of the month again already? If ya say so
SDL Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Yes recall signing up for many coming soon releases in the past with Amazon that never eventuated, will wait and see, though much prefer LOTR, Aliens and a few others before Star Wars.
Cinetastic Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Released on Blu ray with 4:3 standard defintion letterbox (grumpy old 2nd Laserdisc masters) theatrical versions? If possible I would opt for the original letterbox laserdisc masters done for Japan (the pre THX versions) which look surprisingly good and put them through an ARC (aspect ratio converter) and possibly an upconverter to 1080i (or 1080p if they'll stand it). Lucas can't say they don't still exist, as he seems to claim for all other versions of the original theatrical release. I am sure this has been endlessly covered, but there was a rumour I read years ago that Lucas struck personal Technicolor IB prints (and thus seperations?) of those same 'unavailable' theatrical originals, could these not be used George? Telecine those - certainly a step up from the released DVD versions and the original Japanese LD telecine I mentioned. >falls on deaf ears<
Cucamonga Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 (edited) I'm up for a sell out remastered version. I put on one of the letterbox discs and cried with yuck! Edited June 10, 2008 by Swish
HTPCFreak Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I was tempted to get the "Limited Edition" DVD that had the original theatrical versions, even though I already have the SE version DVD collection. But couldn't justify the extra $60 to $90 for yet another SD version of the film. If the theatrical versions come out on Blu-ray, then that would be me sold. But given Fox/Lucas' track record when it comes to these sort of things, I'm not holding my breath. And even when it is released, I don't have much hope that the theatrical versions would be included (they're probably saving it for the "Ultimate Limited Blu-ray Edition" to be released sometime in 2011).

But couldn't justify the extra $60 to $90 for yet another SD version of the film. Not only is it SD but IIRC it's also in 2ch DD and sounds totally lifeless compared to the SE version. GL went out of his way to make this as unpaletable as possible.
Blackman1503561291 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 "Ultimate Limited Blu-ray Edition" to be released sometime in 2011). What a Joke, We will probably have real Star Wars by then
RodN Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Is it that time of the month again already? Yep - and coming up in 2 weeks we'll have some LOTR speculation again....
