Ch33Ch Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 I imported my 80gb ps3 from hk around february this year, its been going solid until i started playing assassins creed and GTA4 about a month ago, thats when i started to get the freeze problems and loading issues. The last time i played my ps3 was about a week ago and was playing assassins creed when it glitched while loading a sound as i completed a small mission in the game and the sound just cut off but i could still move around. So i gave up and turned the thing off. The next time i loaded it up it just did not read any discs at all. I've called sony Oz and the guy told me they couldnt repair my ps3 due to different parts and software prgrams etc, mind you i asked for a quote on a out of warranty repair, he could only quote me on the 40gb and 60gb oz models and said it usually costs around $315 for the 40bg and $350 for 60gb to repair it and they fully go over it and all that bs. Now i'm wondering has anyone imported a ps3 had a problem and got it fixed here in Aus, in particular sydney. It would be nice to know where from and how much it cost also, i know mines still under warranty but if i can avoid sending it overseas and back i will. If any of you guys have sent it back how much was shipping and what was the turnover time. Meanwhile my xbox360 is getting a mad workout.
Jeffie1503561482 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 There is a place where they replace the BD drive for $150... might take some googling.
Guest Big Boss Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Out of warranty and you have to fork over $315-$350 for a local machine. What a rip! That's almost the price of a brand new imported one. Well almost...

Hey dude I had the exact same thing happen to me.... had to send my US PS3 back to the USA for repairs (100 bucks postage), get a relative to send it to Sony (massive headache) and then get it shipped back by relative (another 100 bucks)... Got it back today. It's a new unit and thankfully works but WHO KNOWS when it will freeze up again and cause me the same ****. It's utter bullshit Sony do not have a worldwide warranty scheme. Don't know how to get one fixed here... probably cost the same anyway as sending it back.
ozpanda Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I also have a USA PS3 that has just stopped playing discs of any sort. Anyone got an updated solution for repair in Sydney? I am happy to try replacing the drive assembly myself, but any clues for purchasing parts or a repairer would be great!
