DR.ZOIDBERG Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Hey Guys Trying to decide which one to get - Austar of Foxtel Just looked on the Foxtel website and saw this new deal they have going - $5 + $5 + $5 deal ($5 installation, $5 IQ & $5.00 First month best package) Now what I am confused about is this. I sign up to Foxtel on 24 month deal with this new deal, the first month I only pay $15.00 which gets me installation, best package and IQ. Now here is where I get confused, after the first month if I decide to go to the basic package plus sports, will I be paying this - $37.95 Basic + $17.95 + $5.00 IQ??? = $60.90 for the next 23 months?? or will it be - $37.95 Basic + $17.95 Sports + $14.95 IQ = $70.85 The IQ part confuses me, will it be $5 all the time for the next 23 months or will it go back up to $14.95 after the first month? I tried to call them and ask, was on hold for way to long then when I got someone they had no idea what I was on about and just tried to sign me up. Hopefully I did not ramble on to much above and someone can tell me whats the deal Thanks Zoidy Also, IQ connects by Component cables???
jayweb Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Hey GuysTrying to decide which one to get - Austar of Foxtel How is it that you are able to choose, I thought areas were divided so that you got one or the other, not both. I'm happy to be wrong, I just thought that was the go.....can anyone clarify???
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted May 26, 2008 Author Posted May 26, 2008 I asked my neighbour's and the one next door has Austar and the one across the road said they had Foxtel. So I just thought it was normal for some areas.

jayweb Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 (edited) Zoidy, I actually tried to be helpful (instead of whining about living in an Austar only area) so I read the website, "Subscribe online to FOXTEL on a 24 month direct debit plan to receive FOXTEL’s Amazing 5 Star offer! That's $5* for installation, $5 for the very best package in your first month and $5 FOXTEL iQ monthly service fee (usually $10 or $14.95 per month). Then, give us a call in your first month and we'll help tailor an ongoing package that's right for you. Ongoing packages start from as little as $37.95 per month." I dont know why there is a difference in pricing, but it does appear your price for IQ will go up to either 10 or 14.95 per month. The sports package will be extra, every month, as will movies or whatever package you get, so it can add up very quickly. Hope that helps, Jay **edit** Thats the way I read it, best to check though I guess.... Edited May 26, 2008 by jayweb
DR.ZOIDBERG Posted May 26, 2008 Author Posted May 26, 2008 Thanks for trying to help Jay I had a feeling IQ would go back up to its normal price after the first month but was hoping it wouldnt. I only wanted to get Foxtel for the better connections as Austar have crappy S-Video and I dont wanna spend the extra $14.96 for mystar Damn I wish foxtel has it for $5.00 for all months
jayweb Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Thanks for trying to help JayI had a feeling IQ would go back up to its normal price after the first month but was hoping it wouldnt. The mystar issues thread had more than one complaint about it. Wonder if someone with IQ can advise you if thats the case for them as well......
HD Sports Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Thanks for trying to help JayI had a feeling IQ would go back up to its normal price after the first month but was hoping it wouldnt. Was_There_Then Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Slightly OT, have any existing IQ customers tried to get Foxtel to extend them the same $5 monthly IQ fee (rather than the current $10 or $15)? Someone at work just tried and first of all the rep said “no”. He then asked what was stopping him disconnecting (he is now over the 24 month contract) and then reconnecting to utilise the new deal. Foxtel’s reply was that technically he could do that but there may be a delay in getting him reconnected. When he challenged this, they changed their stance and said that he could do it but he would incur a $50 ‘admin fee’. The rep admitted they were getting quite a few similar calls from unhappy existing customers. With the threat of no service for a couple of weeks, then saying it would cost a mysterious $50 admin fee, it just goes to show the way Foxtel treat their existing customers. I will be ringing up tomorrow to have a try. Would be interested to hear if any existing IQ subscribers are able to take advantage of the new $5 monthly IQ fee.

Without getting too abstract Foxtel/Austar have the same business mantra as drug sellers, once you are hooked they don't want or need to give you free/cheap stuff, you are already hooked. Think of how they treat us in other ways, all day appointments, threats of no service, they pretty much dare us to leave. But if we dont like what alternate choice do we have, best to accept that fact or it will drive you crazy. I'm sure we have all seen the Foxtel/Austar rants on here, they dont change. If we want the programming we have to accept the level of service, as much as we might not agree with it........ Oh btw, best of luck with getting the IQ fee reduced.

Guest bungs1503560714 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 The IQ will remain $5 each month for the life of your contract. It was that yesterday, however it's been changed overnight. "Sign up today and you'll be introduced to FOXTEL for only $15*. That's $5* for installation, $5* for the very best package in your first month and $5* FOXTEL iQ monthly service fee for the first six months (usually $10 or $14.95 per month).
