Ps3 Media Streaming Issues. Not Playing Some Avi/xvid

Featured Replies

My ps3 is connected to my wireless network with the latest firmware and when i stream videos from my pc to the ps3 in the lounge room, only some avi/xvid files play, prob about 60%. Does anyone know why some files won't play and give me "800288C0 data not supported"? They play fine on the PC and worked on the xbox360 when i had it.

I try to convert these files to different divx/mp4 formats using ps3 converter or divx converter and the ps3 wont even recognise them in the list.

Solutions anyone?

what media server are you using om the PC?

I use WMP11 most of the time but also have TVersity installed and use that to play any videos that WMP11 won't play.

TVersity plays everything (cause it transcodes first and then streams a format the PS3 will play) but I like the thumbnails you get with WMP11 (especially for tv series it helps to remember which episode you are up to)

But if your computer isn't very powerful, then Tversity is very limited at what it can transcode in real-time, I have mine set to transcode to 480x640 because I don't want them any lower, but The CPU doesn't appear fast enough, so I've opted for no transcoding so that the CPU isn't being used, any video's that won't play, I just transcode them to DX50, AC3 (5.1ch*) and then I make sure the transcoded version is in a folder that is on the share list, and update the library in the media server.

There are a few options i the TVersity settings (at work no so can't check) that deal with quality/speed.

I remember one is an optin to transcode as quickly as possible or something - as opposed to for max quality

Also make sure you don't have your connection speed too high in the Tversity settings or it may be trying to stream faster than your connection can handle.

I have mine set to transcode to the same resolution I have my PS3 set to (1280x720).

I do have a fairly beefy PC though (Q6600 w/4GB RAM)

Even with it set to maximise speed as opposed to quality it is sometimes not fast enough.

I have:

Intel ® Pentium ® 4 2.8GHz 2.81GHz, 992MB RAM

Can anyone tell me how to use tversity? I can't seem to get it to work ........thanks

There are instructions for the PS3 on the Tversity site

make sure the following port is unlocked: 41952
