Grampus Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 I noticed last night that the ABC were providing 5.1 audio on both both SD and HD channels during Wild China. LCN's 2, and 20. First time I've noticed it. Wondering if other channels are doing this yet?
Topdog Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Great isn't it.... I was thinking last night it wasn't going to happen but when the main program kicked in my receiver switched to 3/2 & DTS...It's no wonder the chinese were always so secretive about their country...I wouldn't be wanting to share it with outside tourists...

Neon Kitten Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Dolby Digital 3/2(5.1) with DTS.... You can't have both at the same time. And DTS is not used as a broadcast audio format in Australia. Never has been, never will be.
Topdog Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Well you seem to be having trouble understanding what I am writing. I am getting 5.1 sound which shows up(decodes) as Dolby Digital 3/2 and my DTS indicator lights up for whatever reason it chooses on my Sony digital receiver. The 3/2 refers to the audio channels which are being fed audio ie FL, FR, Centre, S(or rear)L, S(or rear)R + Sw which all equates to 5.1..Who am I to argue???

Your receiver actually lights the DTS logo/indicator on a Dolby Digital stream? That's unusual for a Sony receiver - I have one myself - as they're usually very accurate at displaying what is being decoded. Unless you're referring to the blue "multichannel" light that some Sony AVRs have?
Topdog Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Looks like my next reply got lost with the forum failure, but please accept my humblest apologies for my abruptness but yes you are dead right. I just didn't look close enough so I got my manuals out and got it all sorted...Just needed a few tweaks and a better look at DVD menus... Saving Private Ryan etc. sound absolutely great with the DTS option.. Thanks and have a great day(s)
