stinhambo Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 My wife asked me why I am considering a 50" over a 42" and I mentioned the resolution differences. Amazingly she noted that the 42" is not a widescreen resolution (which I already knew). What I don't know is does this affect the picture in any way when it comes to HD content or even widescreen gaming?
Shonky* Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 It doesn't affect the picture in the way you are asking. Yes it has slightly less detail because it has less pixels. The TV's internal scaling just scales the picture to the strange resolution. The aspect ratio stays fine. Where you *might* have an issue is if using the HTPC and you want to use 1:1 pixel mapping since the PC expects the pixels to be square. Some drivers (nVidia Linux can) allow you set an aspect ratio to get around this problem.
