Dear all,

I realise there must be countless threads dealing with 'choosing' the right system. And admittedly, I've tried to siphon through the vast pages of advice/information. However, I'm still quite confused.

This is my situation:

- Panasonic 42in plasma - HDMI input

- PS3 - HDMI output

- DVD player - component output

- Satellite tv receiver - component/S-video output

Are there any recommendations for a HT surround sound system to link the above together - in the vicinity of $1-2k?

I have a preference for floor standing speakers. Yamaha and Sony seem to offer a few options, but what do the experts think in terms of quality?

Really appreciate any help at all! Thanks in advance.

I'm actually keen on the Onkyo 606.

Any suggestions on a set of floor standing speakers (under $1000)?

In those countless threads that you apparently have seen and read there are countless suggestions.

More info would be helpful.

Your room dimensions, % music to movies. 2.1/5.1/6.1? Would recommend at least 5.1 (includes sub), so for $1000 it will be a stretch.

hard and fast answer is, that for $1000 - you aren't going to get quality.

Check out the wharfedale speaker pack at JB

speaker pack for your budget

i'd say for the money, this lot would suffice. Not sure if i'd pair with a 606 (better off with a cheaper reciever if your not planning on upgrading ur speakers soon inmho) - but for the 606 and the speakers, you may be able to get the whole lot for around $1800 depending on your bargaining skills. :)

Alternatively, you could pair the dali floor standing speakers on that page i linked you to, with the dali bookshelfs (and a centre) for a fraction more. You wouldnt have a sub (could add one later).. but you would have much better speakers....
