Hey melc, shipping from Amazon is reasonable considering your stuff is coming round the world in a couple of days. I have bought 5 or 6 shipments of DVD/HD-DVD over the past year and no problems.

I do recall though the last time they had only two shipping time options instead of three and if I recall correctly it was the 3-5 day option that was gone, so I used the the 5-10 days. Amazon have a tracking option which is usually spot on. The last one for example was 12 discs and shipping was $40US. If you can save enough on the blu ray and you are sure they will play in your system, then you can save. All I say is check the usual places (Ezydvd, FBO etc) and make sure you cant get the same titles here cheap.

Cheers, happy buying, jayweb

Thanks JayWeb so does it work on base cost plus some amount extra on top of that for each disc you get ... is it capped to a maximum amount. ?

No, its more like they work it out on the size of the parcel. Some items are advertised with Free Shipping, forget that as international people dont get it.

So what you can do is, select everything you want to buy and before you hand over any credit card details you can see how much shipping it will cost by going to checkout, you can then continue shopping or checkout, you can also delete items. You can select the speed of postage and this used to be a big difference between 3-5 days and 3 weeks, but now with only two options I found the 5-10 to be the most cost effective.

Oh and it is never capped and if you add a big item (they sell so much stuff) you will pay through the nose......

That's incorrect the shipping rates for CD's/DVD's at Amazon are

Standard Shipping

Per Shipment $4.99 PLUS Per Item $2.99

Expedited Shipping

Per Shipment $13.99 PLUS Per Item $3.99

Priority Courier Shipping

Per Shipment $29.99 PLUS Per Item $3.99

But beware the second option - Expedited actually tends to take longer than Standard.

Thanks Kazz, do you know if they count a box set of say 5 discs as just 1 item or 5 items ?

That would count as one item, thankfully. :D

Kazz I just checked my last 5 Amazon bills and that doesn't seem to marry up, also, the last time I used Amazon on 5 April there was no Expedited International Shipping available, only Standard International Shipping. I'm not disputing what you had put up as I'm sure you got that from the website but I cant seem to make that work. I have had larger parcels cost more always, even with less items (DVD season packs like sex & city for example), so I don't know how they price it and I have only purchased HD-DVD and DVD from Amazon. I assumed from my purchase history that the pricing model was at best taken as a guide.

Either way, the best bet is to always check the shipping rate prior to completion of the checkout process to avoid any dramas.

Kazz, you are right though, thats exactly what the website says.

Mine definitely don't add up, maybe some items being larger dont get included in the per item list.

Anyway, didn't want you to think I was starting a price war, just reflecting on my experiences.

No I didn't think you were starting a price war, but I would suggest you contact Amazon about the shipping prices because it should add up, the prices I gave off their site aren't a guide it is what they should be charging you.

Just a quick question, when you place the order do you choose to place the order in USD or AUD?

It shouldn't matter how large the item is (talking CD's DVD's here not other types of items here) I placed an order at Chrissie for a small goup of us here on the forum and amongst that was the Harry Potter Years 1-5 Limited Edition Gift Set [HD DVD] which is literally a box and it was charged as one item as per the cd/dvd per item prices on their site.

There would be no point as their region coding info is more often than not incorrect anyway. :(

Just check Mo's list before you order and you'll be right. :D

Always purchased in USD and my bank did the conversions, still can't work it out. Will keep more of an eye on it in the future using your guide, thx.

You can still email them for previous orders if they don't look right, they will refund you if they've made a mistake, they're very good like that.

the THING with Amazon.com that you REALLY NEED to remember is that $2.99 PER ITEM charge (with standard shipping) - which quickly adds up on multiple items in your shopping cart.

Personally - I'd wait a few weeks with any US purchases - and compare the 'upcoming' DeepDiscount bi-annual 20% off sale against what Amazon are charging.

Amazon.com's shipping charges increased last year for international purchases - and the 'discount' that you are getting on the item is recouped via postage. Amazon.com is IMO only good for box sets or packaged sets.

Ok well this has to be a record for me.

That’s good to hear. I’ve ordered the 4 Rambo blu-rays and am eagerly awaiting their arrival. They shipped yesterday, so 1 week for shipping would be fantastic (although at the moment their arrival estimate is July 2nd).

My last Amazon order was split into 3 parts, which shipped on the 16th & 17th of May. The 16th May part arrived yesterday (10 days total). I hope the other 2 parts arrive soonish.

recently made a order from amazon, afew books and the bladerunner blu's(5 disc set going cheap 19.95!) - and damn do you get killed on shipping fee's for books. Still turns out cheaper then buying reference books in an au bookstore(by about 50%). Any good alternatives for buying books/bluray?

Does amazon have a decent discount coupon policy? I'm use to importing from playasia and its very easy to find coupons there.

wish i'd known about the delay with so-called "expedited shipping" when i placed my last order with

amazon.com . sent on the 6th may - and still waiting ..... should have stuck to fedex ( 4 days)

strange fact :

i order from amazon.com and get sent by USPS - about 4-6 weeks delivery - costs i think $18 aust

i order from amazon.uk get sent by uk mail - here in 6 days at the most - cost me around $20 aust

one of these mail providers needs a kick in the .... guess which one ...............

made a few bluray orders from amazon.uk - always had good service and great delivery ( best

is 5 days from order)

must admit though - no problems with amazon.com service - just the delivery by post
