betty boop Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 when i turn on my power amp (primare a30.5) my left front speaker makes a sort of static/white noise for about 20 seconds before commencing normal output....is this normal??? doesnt sound normal gead. shouldnt hear any noises like that and 20 sec is a long time ! 1st thing I'd do is check all connections, including speaker connections - if binding posts check if theyre nice and tight. if using plugs I'd check the plugs. I'd swap cables speaker and interconnects between left and right channels to eliminate a cable issue. and then swap amp channels to eliminate the amp as an issue. then swap speaker outputs to eliminate the speakers. have to use a process of elimination to work out where the problem is
freakygeek Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 I had a similar problem with an old receiver (after about 6 years of use). The problem was caused by deteriorated capacitors on the power supply board, eventually it got to a point where the noise was almost always there. A few new capacitors (I replaced them with 105deg C rated ones) and it's great again. Hope this helps! Cam
