Trying to figure out if my sub (boston 200wt powered) sucks or just a settings problem.

Amp Yami 1800

Speakers Paradigm studio60s

Dts Demo disc 9

Scene : cannonball scene Master & Commander,,,,,,,,,,,,,im getting no Boom when the ball hits, just wood flying around was expecting to jump out of my seat

Scene : LOTR the Green light of evergy fires up behind the gates of moredore,,,,,,,,,,, once again no boom when it first happens as if my system cannot produce the sound that apparently is supposed to blow your roof off.

All other scenes seem to be spot on, like Hero, when the bamboo breaks np sounds like the house has caved in.

Used the auto setup on the Yami 1800 to set speakers up,it says to turn volume down under half, and to have phase 0 and crossover 0

Your Thoughts please,i dont have any experiance with subs whatsoever, but have heard alot of shitty ones ,I have been happy with this one for a

couple of years, seems to blend with my system quite well, except for these two scenes on demo.

The settings on the sub should be:

phase set at 0

cross over on sub amp all the way up, max ( i think this is the prob by having it at 0 no sound is going to the sub)

gain on sub at half way point and do the auto cal set up , thingy, if you then check and the VAR setting has the sub at plus something, then turn up the sub gain and redo the auto setup.

the cross over for the lfe channel in the Yamaha should be set so it blends with the mains, 80hz is the best starting point up if you have tiny mains, and lower if you have monster mains as a starting point.

Is the lfe channel set, ie does the amp know you have a sub attached, am guessing yes if you are getting some sound from it, or is all the bass coming from your mains?

Sorry Trofius but i meant to say crossover was turned full not 0,had a little play around with my Headphones as well directly from dvd,and it appears

to sound the same, maybe im hearing how it is meant to be.

Anyway HN have the same demo running in there HT department so will go and have a listen there and see if there is any differance.

Have you tried setting your speakers all to small?

And don't foget to save the setting once you have done it to one of the "load" options
