nateleung Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I've gone from looking at the Samsung 46" M8, to being convinced that to get the F8 (M8 = 15000:1 vs F8 = 25000:1 contrast, F8 has better onboard sound), to now wondering if I should wait for the Series 7's (50000:1) :S So a couple of questions... 1. How much does contrast ratio matter 2. Forecasted price for the Series 7 46"? And for fun 3. Which would you personally pick? M8 / F8 / Series 7? Note: Price is quite a big factor too; the F8 can go for $2447 after cashback, so if the Series 7 project to prices ~3.5k, then I'd go for the F8 anyways
muzzag Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) Series 5 sets should appear in stores beginning of June. LN46A550P with contrast 30000, 5ms, should be priced similar to M series, but no rebates. Series 6 and 7 with contrast 50000, 4ms, follow later, probably in a few months. Link is to HK model & should be similar to Aus. http://www.samsung.com/hk_en/consumer/deta...&fullspec=F Cheers. Muzz Edited May 23, 2008 by mgwyther
VenomX2 Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Would also like to know which Samsung LCD to pick? Was also considering the F8 or to wait for the newer series 6 & 7. Does anyone know what the difference is between the Samsung series 6 & 7?
skipppy Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 hmm phillips still nails em with a 2 yr old panel which is 3 ms
pistolpoida Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 hmm phillips still nails em with a 2 yr old panel which is 3 ms but the picture on philips is over processed imo, the responese time is mearuresed gray to gray and the samsung kills it in black levels atm
muzzag Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 I think that the seven series line is virtually identical to the six, but has internal memory speculated to be 1GB in size with some pre loaded content. http://www.samsung.com/us/system/consumer/...46A750_spec.pdf http://www.samsung.com/us/system/consumer/...46a650_spec.pdf Looking at the US spec sheets, it's pretty hard to tell the differences.

One of the differences seems to be that the A750 supports DLNA and the A650 doesn't.
nateleung Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) Well, finally bit the bullet!! After much, much deliberation, we ended up going with the Samsung 46" F8, which we got for $2700 from Good Guys (Melb, Nunawading); I'd saw dvt posts mentioning prices of $2500 before cashback in Syd, but the guy said he couldn't get close to that price, and he was a friend of my dad's We were hoping to get an X if @ the right price, but it just wasn't to be; the X could only be had around 3.1-3.2k with haggling, without extended warranty; given that ext warranty would have added another 200+, it became really hard to justify the $600-$700 differential between the Sony and the Samsung Not too unhappy, 2700 gives it to us for $2500 post cashback, and I can semi-justify not waiting for the new models which are due out with sticker prices as high as $3499 Woo hoo... hope to get calibrating and connecting everything tonight Edited May 28, 2008 by nateleung
i_like_chicken Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 That's still a great price! I think I am waiting for the newer Sammys to come out before I buy. I hope I don't regret that decision, because the prices we are seeing at the moment are brilliant!
nateleung Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 Thanks i_like_chicken; I don't think you'll regret waiting, as LCD = tech, and tech will ALWAYS go down in price That said, just make sure you're not always just waiting for the next update Can't believe the F8 was only released 5 or so months ago, and it's already obsoleted :S Thanks guys for all your inputs!! DVT has been a fantastic help (although at times can add to confusion at times too)
