JS-0_o Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I currently have an onkyo 705 amp and am in the market for a 7 speaker set up under 5k. I don't need the sub!!! What would you say is the best 7 speaker set up for movies primarily and value for money, I also would prefer bi-polar surrounds.. Here are some brands i could think of: Jamo Dali Krix Wharfdale Paradigm I was offered a Dali Ikon 7 series (set of 7 speakers) without the sub for $4300, but no bi-polar surrounds. Is there anything which just really stands out?
JS-0_o Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 Anybody know how to get wholesale prices or should i say cost prices in Australia? Do you need a license or something?
pasty Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 With Wharfedale it would depend on what series you were going for. I currently have Diamond 9.6's and a Diamond 9.CM front stage, two pairs of Diamond 9.1's as the rears and an SW250 sub to make the full 7.1 package. I didn't buy the speakers all at once (I may have gotten a better price if I did) but all up they cost me less than $3000. So it's well under your $5k budget so you may want to look for something else.

Is there anything which just really stands out? Monitor Audio silver series, RS8 front speakers ($2200), RS-LCR ( centre speakers $799), RSFX ($1099) and you can add a pair of MA Broze BRFX ($550) . Both effect speakers are bi-polar and I am pretty certain you can get at least 10% discount for a total price around $4200.

Is there anything which just really stands out? In the Paradigm range you would be looking at the monitor series and you would get a kick butt set of HT speakers for $5k. Say the Monitor 11's front cc390 centre and 2 pair adp 190 surrounds rrp according to eastwoods site $5050 less any discount you may be able to get.The monitor series are very efficient and would your 705 would drive them nicely i suspect. Anybody know how to get wholesale prices or should i say cost prices in Australia? Do you need a license or something? Just look for a white van

JS-0_o Posted May 25, 2008 Author Posted May 25, 2008 (edited) Tell ya what, the Dynaudio's look sweet, good reviews, apparently a very natural sound. Anybody eperienced the Dynaudio's? I will have to audition all these speakers at some stage i realize, but thanks for any before hand opinions. Edited May 25, 2008 by SmoKnHot

I will have to audition all these speakers at some stage i realize, but thanks for any before hand opinions. I've listened to the Dynaudio focus 220 and matching centre and surrounds and was very impressed. They are not particularly efficient around 87dB and 4 ohm impedance, a good amp would be needed...but they are well worth a listen. Edit the focus series are well above your budget but I still think the Dyn's are worth a listen at your budget level. Edited May 25, 2008 by cooksta

I have read on some other reviews that the Focus 220 is bit of a lemon (debateble) for the Dyn's unfortunately, 11% distortion at 87db, there weak spot between good affordable quality and highend really good stuff, apparently. I was more thinking of the Audience 122 fronts and matching 122c centre. Edited May 25, 2008 by SmoKnHot
