webbiegareth Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Hi there, I finally got my new Samsung 40" N-series (1080p) screen yesterday. I'm very impressed with the picture quality, and I was able to tune all channels (and they don't break up or stutter). However, audio is another issue entirely. I'm using the optical digital output to my Yamaha receiver (5.1 setup). SD channels that use MPEG audio are fine - very clear sound. However, for the HD channels, using Dolby Digital - it's another story entirely. I'm hearly a lot of crackle in the sound. Battlestar Galactia on 10 HD last night, for example, was terrible - the audio was just extremely crackly. Is this a reception problem? Is it a problem with my new TV? (though I don't see how, seeing as I'm using optical out), or maybe it's just the quality of the audio being compressed too much at the stations? Has anyone else experienced this?
avrtRick Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Hi webbiegareth, It is the broadcast that is the problem, WINHD being the worst IMO. Nothing wrong with your Gear, and there's not much you can do,so I wouldn't worry too much. Hope they get there act together soon Rick

avrtRick Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 (edited) Im not saying your wrong, But it seems that a few people here have had the same problems with the crackling(cant remember which thread)in different areas. These sounds do not happen while watching programs but when they switch to and advert. It happens 0n all three tv's in the house(with WINHD). The Sony has its own antenna and the LG52" and Hitachi 50"CRT have a combined antenna. I also dont have the DVR810 connected to a pre-pro yet(three weeks rsp1069 ) And it happens with the internal tuner in the Sony The same thing happens at my brothers place in Milduru(LG plasma) and my other brother who lives in Red Cliffs(LG DLP) I will ask a few more people about this and also consult Teletune for a fix,or if they can, provide some info kwarrior,do you watch WINHD during the late hours, and notice the they switch between programs and adverts untimingly, like its glitchy. Thats where this crackling occurs. In the past I had rang Prime(Mildura) about there transmission and they did acknowledge that there were problems.(no sound and crackles on the HD feed) I will also ring WN Mildura on Monday for my own curiousity What area do you live in? Rick. Edited May 24, 2008 by avrtRick

What area do you live in? Rick. Hi Rick... Must admit that I dont watch WINHD...but I do record all the IPL Cricket on my DVR810...sometimes the picture does become crackly...but I was assuming that it is probably because of the strength of the signal...but that is mostly whilst watching a programme, and not when they switch...(are we talking about the same thingy?). I live in Sunbury, VIC...and that is about 20 Ks north of Melbourne airport... Would be interested in your thoughts, Rick Cheers

Rick. Anyone having problems with the sound on WINHD in the ACT/Southern NSW. When i attempt to watch the AFL Footy show on WINHD there is no sound. It's only the broadcasting of this program though, when they cut back to loop or an advert etc, the sound returns.
avrtRick Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 (edited) Hi kwarrior, I don't have the same problem with WINHD as you do,Its just sound crackling when switching to ads or programs, and the random switching from program to ad and back within 3 seconds(bloody annoying) I also get sound dropouts only on WINHD,also annoying, when it drops out when your so engaged in a program ( have rang them, they acknowledged this but I got no explanation from them, the lady was a rude B****) My 810's signal quality is always 100 and strength is usually 75(sometimes 69 on bad weather days, but never below that) My thoughts (Im not tech minded so this is a basic assumption ) There seems to be some work that needs to be done with DTV,maybe not so much directly with DTVprinciples, but the providers. To me,it is still in its infancy stage and take time to get it right. (That sounds dumb )you can tell Im noit a man of many words Edited June 11, 2008 by avrtRick
