Ok I love this model over all others. As all have suggested here I let my eyes do the deciding and I have decided on this model

46 M81 Samsung.

Now the best price I seem to be able to get in Perth for this Model is:

$2599 - This is 5 Years warranty Price.

I think I will now get Myer's to match it so I then get ~ $50 voucher from them (which my wife will use) + $200 cash back making the total eventual price:

$2349

What do you guys think? Really value your opinion

I got a 46 F81 for $2500 after promotional deals. Just for your info, you are aware the M81 is discontinued? Prob still a good tv however, depends how much viewing quality and resale value affect you - a subjective opinion. I would say bargain a bit more, say two grand, meet at 2200 / 2250 ish.

yeah problem is thats eastern states prices with eastern states competition.

Over here we only have limited options and those options are further narrowed by the fact that some of the bigger chains don't stock sony or samsung

1. rick hart

2. good guys

3. Harvey Norman

4. Myers

5. Retravision

6. David Jones

7. JB Hifi

Now the model I want is only in stock at Retra, Myers and Harvey so limited options all around :(

PLus my price includes 5 years warranty

$1700 gets you a 50", plain-HD Plasma

$2100 gets you a 46" Full HD LCD

The questions you have to ask are these -

1) Do you want a big Full HD TV with bright colours and a very slight motion lag ? Yes, then go Samsung

2) Do you want higher power bills and a shorter rated lifespan but with 4" more screen size ? Yes, then go Panasonic.

Really? Where? If the price difference was that big, i'd lean towards the plasma. But I was under the impression the price was much closer than that...

HEy kulfi

cheers. When you say $2100 you are not including warranty correct? I have to get it to appease wife even though Samsung gives 3 years on LCD. SO $2300/$2350 with warranty right?

So WA price of $2350 with Vouchers, 5 years, $200 cashback and warranty is pretty good?

Cheers

Yes, it's the price for just the panel. No bells and whistles, no delivery, no extended warranty.

Beware of the extra prices some shops charge for delivery and extended warranty. These are negotiable items and can be slashed to satisfy the customer. JB Hi-Fi in Bondi Junction, Sydney asked a lady for $79 to deliver a 40" LCD just two km away ! Considering I paid Myer $0 for delivering a 46", it's ridiculous.

Loads of places in Sydney. This is the price for the plain-HD Panasonic 50PX70A and also the plain-HD Samsung 50C91.

The Full HD Samsung 50" P91 plasma is around $2400 now but no cashbacks on this model as yet.

The Pana 50" is long gone from all outlets here in Melb. I did a ring around for it about a month ago. No dice. As for the Sammy 50C91, theres one price on the wiki for $1595, but nothing else i've seen is even close to that. Most still seem to be hovering around the $1900 mark.

The Sammy 50P91 still seems to be $2600+ as well.

You may want to wait as the new one is about to arrive and has an extra HDMI port and the contrast ration goes from 15,000:1 to 50,000:1 and it has 100Hz driving.

Don't know if this means much but worth a mention here -

Betta Electrical World Square Sydney had ticketed the latest LG 50" 50PG60UD plain-HD 30000:1 CR, USB input and 100Hz plasma for $1699. It looks really good and is as slim as the latest LCDs. It can be reduced after hard negotiations to around $1500 (cash/debit card payment).

To i_like_chicken,

Ringing and reading ticketed prices alone is not enough. You need to go into the store and say you want it today. Fix a price in your mind and don't budge till you get it. Sure, you may get dissed by some salesmen but it's their loss at the end of the day, not yours. Myer is pretty good at these kinds of negotiations.

I should know, having been through this myself in February. I paid Myer $2099 for my Samsung 46" N81, after rejecting higher offers from 2XJB HI-Fi, 3XHarvey Norman, 1XBetta Electrical, 1XRetravision, 1XGood Guys, 1XDomayne, 2XDick Smith PowerHouse and 2XBing Lee stores. I eventually received my freebie 19" LCD last week (blast Samsung for the endless delay !!!) so the net cost to me is around $1700.

OK went into Harvey Normans and told them that a price of $250 on the warranty was crazy as Retravisions was only $150

Now 5 Years Warranty on 46" Samsung M8 for $2500

Take this quote into Myer and say you want them to do it for $2400 or lower. Watch how the price drops once you have a solid quote......

No way, I don't believe you. Are you sure you don't mean the 42PG20D?

If it is, did you buy one and can you send a receipt?

I didn't believe my eyes either, so I walked into the store and had a closer look at the tag, then noted down the model number and price. It was the 50PG60UD. The previous generation 50" plain HD plasmas (Panny PX70/Sammy C91) are going for around $1700, so it looks like LG has just fired the first shot in a new price war.

Update -

Betta has just modified the ticket. 42" PG20 for $1199 and 50" PG20 (PG60 deleted from that offer) for $1699.

Another user (Acerman) had picked up the 50" PG60UD from JB for $1799 three weeks ago. Hence, $1699 looks like a very achievable target now. I'd say wait for the pre-Olympic special offers and for the new Samsungs to flood the market, then watch the price war and get it for a bargain at that time.

I haven't seen any reviews of this TV yet apart from testimony here. I do get the feeling they are a quantum leap ahead of their last range though.

I have $2,000 to spend so a 50PG60UD with a 2/3yr warranty sounds about right.

Don't laugh but I currently have a 58cm Dick Smiths TV so I think this will be like buying my own Cinema!
