stahc Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 My wife has just been called off to an emergency. Her sister has had a very bad car accident on the way home...............Happened at an intersection 10 mins away from home. At this intersection some clowns have decided to put in some lovely plants that obscure your vision when you are turning right. You can't see any traffic coming towards you until very late. We were at the same intersection on Saturday on the way home from netball & I pointed out this out to my wife at the time...............now this has happened at the same place. You see the same thing at other intersections & roundabouts everywhere.............would be jungles growing out of control! what were the f'ing idiots thinking when they put these plants in..................if they want it to look beautiful then just put in some ground covers instead morons
hatch1959 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 My wife has just been called off to an emergency. Her sister has had a very bad car accident on the way home............... Sorry to hear that mate...fingers crossed your sis in law hasn't been too badly hurt. Thoughts are with you.
DrP Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 A prior edition of the Mackay City Council decided to take the jungle path. Large bushy plants and palms were planted on the median strips along Nebo road (highway one as it passes through Mackay) and roundabouts were covered with jungles etc. It got so bad that traffic in the middle lanes of Nebo road collected palm branches etc as it moved along. Fortunately some sense eventually came to force and the jungles were ripped out and replaced with more sensible low shrubs etc. Hopefully everything works out OK at your end.
stahc Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 At this stage she's being checked out at hospital Don't know who's at fault.................probably just an accident due to what I mentioned above..................however they did say that the WRX that hit her was going at a fair clip
mcduck Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 sorry to here about your Sister in Law chats hoping that she's not to badly hurt so wishing you all luck and yes roundabouts with high growth are a pain in the... we have a few in our suburb, one right near the shopping centre, makes for fun all in all the greeness is a good idea, just wish they'd put more thought into the plants they use
Skid_MacMarx Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I hope your sister-in-law is not seriously hurt Chats I have also complained to my wife in regards to the visibility at roundabouts. This and power poles, the council and state governments should be "dragged across the coals."
stahc Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 mrs chats just rang.................she's in a lot of pain................from what they've told her the airbag has really given her sister a good whack
digitalj Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 My mum was involved in a crash yesterday as she was turning right onto Old Windsor Road from the Abbott Road Exit off the M2, because a car coming the other direction which had a "turn left at any time with care" sign decided to go directly into lane 3 because they wanted to turn right at the next intersection and didn't see my mum's car there.

digitalj Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 yep............that's a great manouver you see every day..what a moron......they would have had miles of roo to get over to turn right at the top of the hill..............................is she ok dig yes, it wasn't a serious crash, just a bit of a dent on the left side. Btw. I perform the same manouver sometimes, but only if the road is 100% clear.
Dork(original) Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) Chats and Dig,i hope she will be ok.She may have burns from the air bag.I have also wondered why they put bushes on roundabouts ,the only reason they do this is IMHO (apart from stupidity) it makes you slow down as you can't see the whole roundabout. I perform the same manouver sometimes, but only if the road is 100% clear. well by the book it's not legal but if the coast is clear ................thats what eyes are for
Volunteer Kazz Posted May 22, 2008 Volunteer Posted May 22, 2008 Just saw this chats. I hope your sister in law is ok. Plants should be banned on roundabouts, only a moron could think that it was a good idea to put them there in the first place.
mcduck Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 guess what the duck nearly did today? maybe a thread for the pics of the roundabouts that piss us off? i have a highly ranked contender
DrP Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 guess what the duck nearly did today?maybe a thread for the pics of the roundabouts that piss us off? Nope, I'm not going to attempt to guess.

Volunteer Kazz Posted May 23, 2008 Volunteer Posted May 23, 2008 update................sis in law out of hospital at 2am................very sore..............car is a write off................woman who hit her had 2 kids in the wrx ...........which witnesses & tow truck drivers have said was speeding Very glad to hear she'll be ok chats .........................beats me though why people have to speed and even worse with their kids in the car.
mcduck Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 glad to hear the news chats i'm glad your sister in law is ok best wishes to her from us all i'm sure
hatch1959 Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 update................sis in law out of hospital at 2am................very sore..............car is a write off................woman who hit her had 2 kids in the wrx ...........which witnesses & tow truck drivers have said was speeding Glad to hear the good news bout the Sis-in-law.. Shame about the car though. Only thing I wonder about is..HOW on earth can you speed IN a roundabout AND what was the driver of the other car thinking..THAT's right.SHE couldnt have been if she had kids in the car... STUPID STUPID STUPID...
DrP Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 HOW on earth can you speed IN a roundabout The sheer number of times I see drivers whiz straight through roundabouts without slowing down at all and with little regard as to what the other traffic entering / leaving is doing makes me think that speeding on a roundabout is something that is quite easily done.
Cooksta59 Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 just saw this Chats, glad to see your sis in law is going to be ok.She is very lucky, her car being written off shows how serious it was. Speaking off roundabouts, you dont need shrubbery planted on them to make them b dangerous; we've got 1 in Adelaide called the brittania...take your life in your hands going through there.
