Johnmw1 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 This is a question on behalf of my old dad. He is having trouble with channel 7 dropping out all the time, you know how it goes it starts pixalating and then pretty soon gets the message come up saying he has lost the signal. Now I have asked him to turn one of his standard tvs on elsewhere in the house and he reports that seven is working perfectly on one set while lack of signal on his plasma which is running the Panasonic QTR2 140 HD STB. Now would it be fair to assume that its the stb which is causing the problems. What confuses me is why sometimes is it OK and at other times it's not? Do these things break down over time, I would not have thought there was too much in them to start playing up given that it is about 4 yrs old. If it is time to start looking for a new one, what one do you recommend ie Topfield etc The second part of this question should probably be in the antenna section but it is sort of related because I'm sure he will ask me. His antenna is about 10 yrs old give or take, and given with what is happening in the next year or so with digital, should he be investing in a new antenna. He lives in Adelaide(Edwardstown) and from his roof has a full view of the Mt Lofty towers. I did notice the other day when checking out the stb that he was only receiving about 85% signal strength on channel 7 which I would have thought should have been more? Could this also be part of the cause, and if so what antenna should he be going for. Hills antennas are just around the corner from him, but I'm not sure whether there are better brands elsewhere or not. Thanks John
Johnmw1 Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 Went to the GG today to have a look at the Topfield stb, but they reckon the Teac($174) is a better box with better picture quality and easier to setup etc, so what is the consensus. I have also rescanned his stb but am still getting channel 7 dropping out, so it still has me puzzled as to if its a stb or antenna problem? John
