miata Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I thought I read that the iQ2 has three tuners, According to the latest FOX magazine, you can record two programs at once, what happened to the third tuner?

Only two will be used when the service starts according to the fine print on the web site. Edited May 22, 2008 by Ken Tripp
Hosko Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) I thought I read that the iQ2 has three tuners, According to the latest FOX magazine, you can record two programs at once, what happened to the third tuner? The iQ2 actually has 4 tuners. 1 is only used for recording on demand programs onto the hard drive. Another has been disabled at launch. Apparently they didn't have time to rewrite the code to get it working, the code for that section is borrowed straight from the iQ1 at the moment. Edit - sorry I just re-read what I wrote and I must have been drunk when I posted it lol Edited May 23, 2008 by Hosko
MattWinter Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Only two channels are for recording. The 3rd tuner ensures that you can always be flipping between channels etc, while the fourth is for on demmand content. I think it's a decent idea, I would never record more than two things at once anyway (especially when you consider that a lot of stuff gets repeated the next day)

jaxmachine1007 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I was wondering if you can record 2 shows at once, and watch another recorded one, just like IQ1?
Julian L Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I was wondering if you can record 2 shows at once, and watch another recorded one, just like IQ1? Yes. In future, you'll be able to record two programmes while watching a third programme live.

MattWinter Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Where was it said the 3rd would only be used for flipping channels?? I'm pretty sure it was in the blog about what the four tuners would be used for - I'm sure I heard it somewhere.
nagelixin Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 When all 4 are available: 1 - Recording 2 - Recording 3 - Watching live broadcasts 4 - FBO / Pushed content
miata Posted May 24, 2008 Author Posted May 24, 2008 Yes. In future, you'll be able to record two programmes while watching a third programme live. Watch live and have to suffer through the ads? No way Jose! I don't watch anything live at all, except on the ABC and even then, rarely.
