jingsu6688 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Hi Guys, Where do yo guys get your cables from? Internet or specialist stores. I was told www.ezyhd.com is a good place. Do we really need to spend a good amount of money for composite or component cables? What cables do you guys get between the 5.1 speakers and the receiver? If I want to run wall mount points for the sur sound speakers, what cable should I use in between of the wall mount points inside the wall or the ceiling? Thanks a lot to you guys. I really got heaps of help from this forum. BR/Jing Su
kwarrior Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Where do yo guys get your cables from? Internet or specialist stores. I was told www.ezyhd.com is a good place. - Ezyhd is a great place to get HDMI cables..... Do we really need to spend a good amount of money for composite or component cables? Component Video cables need good shielding....but you can get reasonably good quality cables for between 30 & 40 Dollars What cables do you guys get between the 5.1 speakers and the receiver? Depends on the distance between your AVR and Speakers...I have my Rear speakers about 7 meters away from my AVR, but in Cable length that is about 13 meters ...going around corners etc. I use 14 AWG (American Wire Gauge) for those, and 18 AWG for the fronts, which are close to my AVR. Search for Speaker Cables on ebay for an example and google Speaker cable gauge ...and you will get several articles on Speaker cables... Finally, most of this also depends on the Dollars you wish to spend. Hope this helps some !!!

Not sure if they are the best as such but i wouldn't be able to tell the difference and the price is very reasonable. Not sure about your other questions though, no doubt someone will answer them.
Volunteer Kazz Posted May 22, 2008 Volunteer Posted May 22, 2008 - Ezyhd is a great place to get HDMI cables..... I can second that, all of my HDMI cables are from EZYHD and I have just gotten a batch of banana plugs and speaker wall plates from them as well.
peterca Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I can reccommend Selby too, good quality at a very reasonable price.
50mxe20 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Foxtail - http://www.ezyhd.com/ and HT Custom cables (now Cinemalink) - http://clink.com.au/

Volunteer Kazz Posted May 22, 2008 Volunteer Posted May 22, 2008 Hi Kazz,So the banana plugs are for the speaker wall plates? BR/Jing Su Yes they are, I already have bananas going into the amp, and the speakers.
50mxe20 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Yes they are, I already have bananas going into the amp, and the speakers. metal or plastic?
Volunteer Kazz Posted May 22, 2008 Volunteer Posted May 22, 2008 metal or plastic? Metal, they are the same as the ones I just got from Foxy.
SDL Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I'm still a Jaycar guy. Find it easy to go in and grab what I want and no issues with any of them.
50mxe20 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Metal, they are the same as the ones I just got from Foxy. I remember norpus recommending plastic.
norpus Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I remember norpus recommending plastic. Yes I did for my avr, just because they sometimes touch if the cables are pulled by mistake. So lucky the denon avr seems bulletproof in this regard. Whilst the metal ones look and feel better quality, the plastic ones which feel cheaper may be 'less bang' for buck, ironically, but preferred for that very reason

simopimo Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I bought cables (and other stuff) recently from Selby Acoustics http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au (they advertise here). Really quick service - ordered late Monday night, arrived Thursday - very impressed. I hear ezyhd.com.au is good too - just ask foxtail or look at his customer testimonials.
jingsu6688 Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 Yes they are, I already have bananas going into the amp, and the speakers. Hi Kazz, Can the wall plate be mounted on plaster board or how does the wall mount points work? Thanks, mate.
nightbreed Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I just bought a couple of HDMI cables from MSY computers. $25 for a 10m HDMI is a great price if you ask me. Seem to be working fine so far *crosses fingers*
collinhack Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Cable chick were also fast and reliable when I used them to get my 15m HDMI cable, Now I'd got with Foxy, but he didn't do 15m ones then :-)
Guest EZYHD Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Hi Kazz,Can the wall plate be mounted on plaster board or how does the wall mount points work? Thanks, mate. They fit plasterboard either by way of a Clipsal stud backing plate (best) or small metal ones supplied.
geoff888 Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Other than those already mentioned, if you are in Sydney you can try also try Altronics in Auburn (similar to Jaycars) or Wes Components (v. cheap if you have a trade a/c) in Ashfield.
