greenhj Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Hello everyone, I have a 39 month old philips rear pro tv that has developed a red convergence issue. Luckily (for philips) im 3 months out of the manufacturers warranty so im going to get stuck with the repair costs. I have read a lot of info regarding the convergence ic and associated repair but dont feel confident replacing this myself. I am by no means an idiot but feel that a tech will be better placed to do this for me. (And at a premium price no doubt.) On a manual multipoint red convergence, approx 10 of the crosshairs have no vertical adjustment and are "skewed" from a proper crosshair shape, am I correct in assuming the ic failure? Secondly, whats the typical approximate cost of such a repair by a tech (So I dont get ripped off) in melbourne? Apart from this problem which is bugging the hell out of me, I am pretty happy with the unit as a whole. Thanks in advance, I apologise if this thread is in the wrong subsection.
greenhj Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Ok, after the Philips appointed repaired replaced both IC's and charged $680 for the job, the tv is still the same... Now they are saying the digital module is probably shot too, this apparently has to go to sydney direct to philips to be repaired. Has anyone come across this before? Now I feel like I have to throw good money after bad, the company of the tech for 2hrs cost near 700 bucks, I can think of a LOT better way to spend that money for a stranger to be in my home... Looking at an equivalent size screen in a plasma will cost 3 grand, since in already into the repair of this tv for 600 odd Im thinking that persevering with it might be more fiscally responsible. Does anyone have a contact address for someone at Philips who I can discuss this issue with? For the cost of the tv I would of expected at least 5yrs out of it but barely scraped past 3. Im not very happy with the whole thing...
