cheekyage Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) Hi Guys, I am thinking of getting the new slimmer and lightweight PSP yet I was hoping someone can provide some feedback for me on the following: 1. Does the PSP play overseas games? 2. Cheapest place to buy PSP games? 3. Top 5 must have games for the PSP? 4. Is there a way like the Nintendo DS where you can download PSP games? Cheers Edited May 21, 2008 by cheekyage
googleaddict Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Hi Guys,I am thinking of getting the new slimmer and lightweight PSP yet I was hoping someone can provide some feedback for me on the following: 1. Does the PSP play overseas games? 2. Cheapest place to buy PSP games? 3. Top 5 must have games for the PSP? 4. Is there a way like the Nintendo DS where you can download PSP games? Cheers 1. PSP is region free so it can play any designated PSP games without any problems. 2. Not sure 3. Not sure 4. You can download the games onto your memory stick but i wouldn't have to clue as to where to find sites with these downloadable games. To hack a PSP you really only need to install custom software then you can play games from memory sticks and do alot more home brew things. In a way its very much like a DS hack. Hope that helps?
nting Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 2. Overseas (Malaysia was around $100 cheaper). Or just keep an eye out for Target/Big W/KMart catalogues. 3. Depends on you taste. My recommendations are: - God Of War - Grand Theft Auto (Liberty City or Vice City) - Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters - Tekken 5 - Loco Rocco 4. Be very careful with applying the hacked firmware as you could brick the PSP (kill it). Probably best to find someone who has done it before if you're not confident doing it yourself. Also remember that the process is different for the old PSP and the new slim PSP. Once it's done though, you can download using P2P programs. Games can get quite big though (70Mb - 500MB) so you better have a big enough Memory Stick. Also make sure the Memory Stick is fast, otherwise loading games will take ages... If you're in Adelaide, i know someone who may be able to help with the firmware.

iainl Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 A couple more comments on games, since I still have the fat&heavy PSP (having tried my brother's slim&lite I can't say the difference is phenomenal, but there are definitely improvements with the newer model). 1) As I also have a DS, mine is almost entirely used for driving games; it's the one genre that (with the notable exception of Mario Kart) the PSP absolutely lords it over Nintendo's device. As such, my top three titles are WipEout Pulse, Outrun 2006 and Sega Rally. 2) If you have a PS3 or mod your machine you can play PS1 games on it as well. Quite a few hours lost to Gran Turismo 2 here, as well as Tempest X3. 3) While you can import games from anywhere, as with the DS there are sometimes problems in multiplayer - you can't always play a link-up game between titles of different regions, so if you're looking to play with friends you might need to purchase games from the same region as them.
