Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a 32" HD LCD for XBox360 and Movies. I have decided it must have a 3yr warranty and a built in Digital tuner.

Im looking seriously at a Acer AT3235B because of its low price, pick-up warranty (I dont have to transpot it to the repair guys for warranty claims) and on paper at least it looks quite good (not top of the line but good for the price). The price is ~$740 with delivery. I havent seen it running yet, but even when I do it will be under bright shop floor lighting so hard to see things like black levels, evenness of back light, colour tone etc. Also does any one know if new Acer TV's still have the clay faces issue?

Any opinions welcome.

Why not consider the Samsung 32" R81 for under $900 ? It's better than the Acer. I should know, having bought the AT3220 last March from Officeworks. Haven't had any problems with the Acer since that time but it's just that the Samsung is better.

The clay face issue on the Acer goes away if you use VGA or HDMI and is hardly evident when using component (RGB) input. I've kept the Acer in the bedroom and have plugged in a DVD player, PVR and HD STB to it. I even tried to plug in my PC but found it a bit inconvenient to operate.

Am considering the Samsung and the new LG 32LG60UD, but I like the pick up warranty on the Acer. (The price is a big selling point but not the only selling point.)

I have the Acer that Kulfi mentioned as well, 3220 I'm pretty sure. I can't fault it. I compared it to a range of others before I bought it, Sony, Sammy, Pana, and found that I preferred the Acer in the picture quality, playing the exact same material on them, back to back I rathered the Acer. Plus the Acer was ~$500 cheaper then the nearest LCD (at my time of buying, I know the prices have come down a bit). I use my Samsung Hdd/dvd recorder (digital) and PS3, both come up pretty nicely through HDMI, can't really fault the look of it.

Ultimately though, your best bet would be to take a look at one playing a few different things, and see which unit you prefer the look of, and then go for that.

For what it's worth, Samsung has an in-home repair warranty so don't let that point push you towards one brand or the other.

Did you know that the Acer 4235 has a $199 cashback on it right now ? I had $99 cashback on the 3220 (purchase price $898) but didn't go for it because Acer offered a 2-year factory warranty extension in place of the cashback. So I paid $898 and have a 5-year warranty. If it blows up any time before 2012, the chances are they won't have parts to fix it, which means refund or replacement. Win-win either way.
