hey yeh i bought one a few months ago for the same price, they are great! picture quality is excellent via component and the geometry is surprising excellent for a wide screen CRT. Actually i'd say the geometry is pretty much perfect, cant fault the TV at all.

i thinking of picking one up at 289 at kmart.

anyone had any experinces. will be used for austar and fta tv only.

My parents have one. Through S-Video and RGB the picture is great. Sound is a bit lacking in response what do you expect for a TV. I am impressed as are they. Build quality looks good too

But remember, it won't matter if it's a HD box, the screen is still only capable of displaying the box output in SD.

Had a look at these tv's for bedroom use and they do appear to have a great picture.

Going to pick up a couple next week at the discounted price.

I saw one of these today and for the price it looked good. I had a good look at the back and I am sure it had the standard component RCA's in addition to a Scart terminal.Looking at the Sanyo website it looks like there is no RGB via Scart only composite video and audio. It also looks like you have a choice of S-Video or Component(not both).

it has

1 x COMPONENT

1 x SCART CONNECTOR

2 x COMPOSITE

1 x SVIDEO

And yeh i honestly thought it would have distorted geometry as alot of widescreen CRTs tend to have, I have mine running through a SD STB via component (not scart) picture quality is absolutely brilliant....no geometry issues, looks great....id buy this TV over any small LCD.... i am running it in my bedroom, great bedroom tv.

Definitely has YCbCr component video connection, check the manual here: CP28WF1 SANYO 66cm Widescreen CRT (drop down box to model CP28WF1)

The model sold by Target is the CP28WF1, which has component video input. I should know, I got one.

There was another 66cm WS CRT model, the CP28WF2, which didn't have component video input.

Maybe the other department stores sold the non-component-video CP28WF2 model in the past, but the model sold by Target is definitely the CP28WF1 which has component.

Of note, I don't think Sanyo make the 66cm WS CRT anymore and I don't think K-Mart or Big W have stock nowadays. Target may still have stock, as I note it's still advertised on their website for $399, but whatever they have is probably the last available in Oz.

I agree with others, really is a great option for a second TV with a flat widescreen as long as bulky CRT size isn't an issue. Pity they aren't around much anymore because your only other option for the same sized widescreen telly is a 26" LCD TV which are basically much more expensive.

I work for a Kmart in Brisbane, so tomorrow I'll check the system to see if it's gone onto clearance or not. Last time I checked, it wasn't a clearance line yet, which means that Kmart still has stock... Somewhere... Picture-quality wise, it's definitely the best that I've seen in the shop.

Not bad considering that only a year ago the equivalent LG, whilst just a tad bigger, WS was going for around $800.

Sadly, Kmart no longer has them in stock in a warehouse anywhere, so if you can find one in a store, buy it quick, because there won't be anymore.

These go on sale at Target tomorrow for $249!!

If the bulkiness of a CRT wasn't an issue, you wouldn't find a cheaper 26" pure flat wide screen for that much anywhere.

I take it this only has an analogue tuner. What STB would be best to achieve SD given quality and resolution of tv.

Thanks

Also, will the TV display a HD signal and scale back to SD.

I have a HD STB box on mine and it displays no problem except won't work via a component video connection, but it works with the standard RCA composite video connection no problems.

My HD box has a miniumum output resolution setting of 576i and via component it won't work on the Sanyo. So I assume the TV downscales the signal to lower than 576i but not via component connection.

But as long as your STB box has the basic RCA video output (yellow socket), regardless whether it's HD or SD, it'll work on the Sanyo.

On mine I have the HD box via the composite and my DVD player via the component. Which is essentially all this TV is designed for.

576i should work. That's SD, and that'd be what's coming from your DVD player. It's more likely that the minimum output from your HD STB via component is 576p, which seems fairly common.

$225 was the price on a ticket on this TV on display at my local Warwick Kmart: have no idea if this is a catalogue special or a one-off at this store to get rid of their remaining stock. It might even have only been for display unit at this price: I did not investigate.

It'll be clearance price. I work for a Kmart in Brisbane, and did a scan of the system a few weeks back to see if that TV is still a regular line. It isn't, and Kmart won't be getting any more in. So I'd be buying it if you're wanting one, as soon they won't be around anymore.

I'm interested in getting a widescreen CRT TV. Do any manufacturers still make them or will I have to do some digging to find one out there?

Unfortunately you'll have to do some digging around.

None of the well know brands make WS CRT's anymore, such as Panasonic, Toshiba etc. And Sanyo no longer make WS CRT's, so those 66cm ones at K-Mart/Big W/Target are basically just the clearance of display stock. Target had the very last clearance of the Sanyo 66cm WS CRT's back in July (so their head office told me), so they're now gooooone!

The only other WS CRT option I know of is the Sansui 76cm that was available at K-Mart. I'm not even sure if it's still available but it was an over price piece of crap as far as I could tell - $599 for a WS with geometric distortion problems.

I was pretty desperate myself to get the Sanyo 66cm CRT. I knew they were becoming extinct and I didn't want to become a victim of the bullying corporates forcing consumers into either paying +$400 for a 66cm LCD that doesn't look any better than the Sanyo CRT, or spend much more money for something bigger that I don't need!

Does anyone on the Gold Coast have a Sanyo CRT WS TV? I have a 66CM one (CP28WF1), but I have lost the remote control so I can't activate some functions e.g. teletext, screen aspects (4:3 or 16:9), etc. I'm trying to find this remote control for a quick use to copy the codes onto my other AV remote control which has a "learn" function. If you are on the Gold Coast and have this remote control, could you please let me know? Many thanks!
