achjimmy Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Yep Fox are good like that. well there is another reason to curtail my jump to the blu side, guess i will go DVD.
SDL Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Great movie, despite over selling the US war effort like most US movies. Loved it on TV and have always intended to get the DVD, might get the Blu-Ray now.
Fouler Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 This review is very promising for the other 'War' titles being released at the same time. I've got Patton on pre-order along with Battle of Britain, The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far. I expect them to be in that order quality wise. I have a US DVD edition of Patton that is also stunning in PQ and AQ terms, probably one of the best I own.
Hydrology Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Agree with Fouler, the DVD was reference for me in terms of old movies on DVD.
sandy1010 Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 wow ! i cant wait to get my hands on this! "You know i actually pity those poor bastards were going up against , by god i do. Were not just going to shoot the bastards , were going to cut out their living guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks! were going to murder those lousy hun bastards by the bushel"
Arecsa Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Screenshots look great and the review is very positive, but those clowns at Fox are so stubborn with their ridiculous price structure. $28 for a catalog title is not on. Fall in line, Fox - $20 max for catalogs and $25-28 for day and date releases.

Anybody know what the Australian release is like for quality? Thatll do me whilst region coding is in effect.
GTO Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Anybody know what the Australian release is like for quality? Thatll do me whilst region coding is in effect. Wher could this movie be bought on "standard" DVD? Cheers, GTO.
Fouler Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 EzyDVD have the 2 disc set for $29. But I know that in the DVD sub-forum in the For Sale or Trade Thread there is a US R1 copy going for $10 posted... Obviously someone who is planning on getting the Blu version soon...
peterjcat Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 When you put your hand into a bunch of goo that a moment before was your best friend's face... you'll know what to do!
iainl Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Wow that film looks like it was shot yesterday Patton was shot in 65mm; mere 1080p doesn't come close to where the limits of film grain are for that stock. Fox did a really good job looking after it, too, but the fact remains that you could blow it up to IMAX size without any of that grain removal junk they pull for modern movie presentations on that format. God, I wish they'd use it again.

Yes the quality of film goes far beyond 1080p its such a wonderful medium. Just goes to show if the film stock is in good nick what they can do with it! This is a good one - I'm a bit annoyed at Fox's bundling of the war movies though, it's like they've got a lemon inside each grouping of three.

Link as kid i was part of a school excursion to see this movie [roughly 6 or 7 years of age] well..............given the length of this movie coupled with its adult themes it wouldnt be hard to expect that it manifested into shear bedlam..and to some degree it did [memory precludes a complete recollection of all the details] of course they blamed us and we permanently banned from all future excursions
jayweb Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Wow, looks like a must have, I was impressed with Bullitt on HD (with its grain) but this looks schmick.
Fouler Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Had sort of hoped that my Amazon pre-order for Patton, along with 5 other war titles that were all being being released on June 3, would be shipping about now. Just checked and they have a shipping estimate of June 17 ! It seems pretty poor for it to take an extra 2 weeks.
auswoffer Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) When is the Australian release? I'm definitely getting this, and I rarely buy. One of the best War/Bio movies ever made. George C Scott was born to play Patton. Patton was one of the most colourful and succesful generals of WWII. This movie won 7 Oscars, with Scott refusing to receive the Best Actor award. One of my favourite quotes. Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. auswoffer Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) What do the importers think of Patton? I keep checking for the Australian release but no news. Maybe it will get a Sept release for Fathers Day. Where the hell is Lawrence? Seems to be delayed again. Band of Brothers is due soon. BOB reminds me of the old TV series Combat with Vic Morrow. Would watch it Sunday lunchtime. Was it before or after the wrestling on Channel 9? Gen. Omar Bradley:There's one big difference between you and me, George. I do this job because I've been trained to do it. You do it because you LOVE it.Patton:There's only one proper way for a professional soldier to die: the last bullet of the last battle of the last war. Edited June 26, 2008 by auswoffer
Chesty Posted June 26, 2008 Author Posted June 26, 2008 I received my copy of Patton earlier this week but am yet to watch it. Probably due to the 3 or so hours running time so will try and watch it over the weekend.
