Jason_dinAlt Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Does anyone know what Austar's technical problem is that they cant take service fault calls? I called three times today because my shitty provider box is resetting at least 50 times a day (I AM NOT EXAGERATING!!!) only to be greeted by a recorded message saying "we are experiencing technical difficulties. Our engineers are working on the problem but we cant take your call, please try again in ten minutes" And I am not exagerating, this heap of crap provider box resets now at least 50 times a day, always between 8Pm and 8AM, but doesnt miss a beat between 8AM and 8PM WTF? Sometimes it will reset ten times in an hour! This box started doing this on the 23 april, a co-incidence?
DrP Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Their Austar STB is resetting repeatedly and they are all busy trying to work out what the problem is. You might have a thermal fault in the box. Whack a heater next to it and see what happens. Pay TV in this country leaves a lot to be desired.
davmel Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 This box started doing this on the 23 april, a co-incidence? It's a subtle hint that they want you to upgrade to the MyStar which only requires reseting a few times a week (if you're lucky)
jchowland Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 It could be the solution as I had with Foxtel a while back... phone their main reception (and fry for several minutes), or see if there is a 'disconnect' option and you might have a better chance of getting through
Cable Guy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Check the cover is still on your lnb, might have a spider living in it. Night time they move in and out to feed, day time they just sit still and avoid becoming spider food.
Cable Guy Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 (edited) Oops double post my bad. Edited June 3, 2008 by Cable Guy
Jason_dinAlt Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 Actually that happened to my neighbour, the spider in the lnb problem. My lnb is only 5 years old and the cap is still intact. I knew it wasnt the lnb as I have another dish aimed at C1 for Aurora and I swapped the problematic box to that dish and it still did it. The tech said it was most likely a power supply problem, and just a co-incidence that it started happening the day the changes were made to disable third party boxes, but I reckon it was a card issue, solely because of the times it happened, if it was a power supply problem then it would do it all day and night and not EXACTLY at 6AM

I had a wasp build a mud nest for its larvae and other dead insects for their food a few months back in my LNB. It blocked the signal really well until I cleaned out all the dried mud and dead insects.
