franin Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Im looking at doing a 7.1 system.Im running a 5.1 at them moment but looking at putting ceiling speakers above my head for the rear surrounds.I have bipole at the moment on the sides which reflect to the back wall creating that rear centre.I've noticed focals do ceiling speakers and with all this 7.1 dts hd ma coming out im interstresed to hear it. Which would be best ceilings pointing down or on the wall pointing down on an angle?
OzMillsy Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) I have in-ceiling speakers for my surrounds in a 5.1 ch system. They have an adjustable tweater which can be pointed/twisted in the direction you want. I have cheaper ones, I'm reasonably happy with them, and am looking to add 2 more, when I upgrade to a 7.1 processor. I choose to use them for convenience, as I have an usually shaped room, and had no where to evenly place rear speakers. I couldnt even manage wall mounts, in an evenly placed setup. If you place a higher priority on your surrounds than I do, then for nicer (better quality in-wall or in-ceiling speakers) look at Sonance. Sonance In-ceiling speakers Edited May 19, 2008 by OzMillsy

Franin, drop Curious a pm he has just installed ceiling speakers in for 7.1 and can tell you what he used as he's quite impressed by them.
50mxe20 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Franin, I have in-ceiling Focals and they have pointable tweeters. I don't believe you would have any issue with them. Afterall it's only specical effect sounds anyway.

Sonance In-ceiling speakers thanks OzMillsy for rear surrounds I haven't placed that much of a high pirority as Lyle say there just for the surround effect.
Volunteer Kazz Posted May 19, 2008 Volunteer Posted May 19, 2008 Thanks Kazz Actually I just remembered he did a Review Thread on them.

Which would be best ceilings pointing down or on the wall pointing down on an angle? Hi Franin. I'm running a B&W 7.1 setup using 4 x CCM65's as my surround left/right & surround back left/right speakers. This suited my room layout and I wanted to ensure I could future-proof my hometheatre as much as possible. Its been a good decision considering the 7.1 material that is starting to appear on bluray releases. The B&W's have the adjustable tweeter also which seems to work well. That too and having them located in the ceiling meant having a happy wife (no unsightly cables). There's probably a good range of decent quality ceiling speakers to pick from - good luck and happy shopping!
Guest Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Lyle sorry mate it's actually IC 108. The salesman told me it 308.I've looked in the website and shows 108.Had to ring back and confirm.

Cooksta59 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 thanks OzMillsy for rear surrounds I haven't placed that much of a high pirority as Lyle say there just for the surround effect. Franin just thought I'd comment there........I went from entry level polk bookshelfs to Jamo in ceiling speakers rrp $800.The difference in clarity was astounding, for instance the THX demo at the start of star wars 1; a rear effect was heard but was unintelligable with the polks. With the new jamos in place I thought it was raining heavily in my room. So it is worth spending enough to get a decent speaker even for the surrounds imo. I note you are looking at the Focals and think they would be of suitable quality...I know Lyle luvs em 33 minutes Work got in the way! Dont you hate that.
cwt Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 (edited) Franin as Kazz and Cooksta imply dont skimp on the back surrounds ; especially if you can get a bargain with the triad's like Curious got. HDMI version 3.0 [i know whats that I asked too when it was mentioned at avs forums ] is for audio applications apparently and audio blurays have allready been released ;so who knows whats to come ? Even if HDMI 3.0 doesnt exist ; sacd and dvd audio are/will be replaced by 24/96 quality on bluray imo. The better the bass response the better Edited May 19, 2008 by cwt

Guest Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Uh Oh well she knows about the awaiting projects the my room treatment,2:35:1 scope and the rear surrounds. After that i just want to sit and enjoy not worry about not worry about upgrade. Being Surround back with a cut off freq at 80hz i didn't think that they would matter too much.
