Hi all,

A very quick question that I posted a day or so before the database problems, and it appears to have been lost with the restore.

I'm having trouble getting an answer from a couple of online stores, so figured someone here would likely know the answer:

Does the ATI 3450 card come bundled with a component TV-out cable? (I know there are different manufacturers of this card, so if you bought one that does or doesn't, please let me know the manufacturer).

Thanks,

Craig

Craig , in my experience I have not seen a graphics card bundeled with a component cable and there are not that many cards that support component video out.If they do usually all you get is an adaptor to allow you to connect your own component cable.Usually you can check on the manufacturers website to see what acessories are supplied for any given card.

Hi Gordon,

Yeah, that's been my biggest problem so far - for the couple of cards that I'm looking at, the manufacturer's site doesn't describe what's bundled with the product.

I'm hoping someone out there just replies with a simple: "Yeah, I bought the MSI ATI 3450 and it has the cable with it!" ........ fingers crossed.

Otherwise, I'll have to pop into a store and check for myself - I just haven't had a chance to do that yet.

Cheers,

Craig

I have an Asus 3450. Not sure if it came with a component adapter cable. I will try and remember to check for you tonight Craig. The adapters (rather than an actual cable) pictured here look much more robust http://ati.amd.com/products/hdtvadapter/index.html But I have never seen them for sale anywhere.

Yeah, you're right - I've not seen those adapters for sale in Australia (perhaps they're only available in the US). There are some dodgy ones available on eBay, but I've read about people having various problems with those.

Oh, I should have been a bit more specific too - I particular want to know about the "s-video" to component cable (I know they call it s-video out on the card, but it's not strictly s-video). I'm just going to run the card into a standard Samsung CRT tele, not a HD tele.

Cheers,

Craig

Update - just had an e-mail back from MSY. They quoted me on an ATI 2400Pro and have confirmed that it comes with a component cable. I believe the 3450 is the successor to the 2400Pro, yes, so perhaps that's a good sign?

This all seems to be a bit confussed... there are 3 main non digital TV connection Composite, S-Video and Component. These all have different connectors. Some graphica cards will supply a 'break-out' cable/box that will allow each connection type, some cards just have direct connection (generally S-Video or Composite).

If your TV has s-video in then you will need a graphics crad that has s-Video out, you do not need to worry about Component. On a number of cards the s-video out is used for both s-video and to connect the 'break-out' cable.

What connection are you using on the TV, Composite, S-Video and Component?

Hi TBAR,

It does get a little confusing.

I'm hoping to use my TV's component in (ie. YPbPr), so I'll need some kind of adapter out of the video card which has the 3 component RCAs on the end of it. Most of the 3450s have a "TV-out" connection - I believe I'll need to use this to go to component.

Be very careful in describing component:

Component outs carry the Vertical and Horizontal scan rates.

@ 480i is 60Hz.

@ 576i is 50Hz

But component DOES not cease or is locked to STANDARD definition.

Component goes higher -

@ 480p @ 60Hz

@ 576p @ 50Hz

@ 720p @ 50Hz

@ 720p @ 50Hz

@ 1080i @ 30Hz

@ 1080i @ 25Hz

I am not sure of 1080p level.
