Hi

Having found this forum on google and reading through the 7 pages I have some questions.

1. Am I right in saying that people are sending money for a firmware that they haven't received yet, and haven't had a firm date on when they will be receiving it?

2. Has anyone who has paid received it and tested it works?

3. I've no idea who this guy is who has done the firmware (yesterday I didn't even know about this forum). Are people paying for this out of blind faith? or has this been done before here and a reputation built up?

4. Is there a FAQ on this firmware release? ie, does it work on all versions of the EP30 worldwide? Which firmware version is required before installing? What exactly does it enable, and is anything necessary to enable any features? What is being charged for the firmware? Why is this being charged for?

I realise its early days since the announcement seems to be only yesterday, but I find it strange ppl are throwing money at something without these questions answered.

Usually firmware updates are free, the hacker enjoys making a name for themselves in enabling something Toshiba should have themselves etc. Being devils advocate, wouldn't Toshiba be alot more annoyed at a hacker if they could see they are profitting from their hack?

Please don't flame me for these questions, I am as interested in getting a region free firmware as everyone else, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that has these questions.

To answer your questions:

1. Yes

2. No

3. No blind faith, he has a serious rep

4. It works on all versions of the EP30/A30. It removes region coding, no other changes (unless you're installing over an older firmware). The charge is 20 pounds sterling. The reason for the charge is too long to go into.

This firmware is NOT a hack.

To give you an idea of the person you are talking about, his previous region free firmware releases for the HD-E1, HD-EP10 and HD-XE1 may be found on the Toshiba Australia website in the hd dvd firmware downloads section. His versions are 2.5.

Cheers.

On second thoughts I can sum up the reason for the charge after all, but it won't give you the "history": The charge is due to the selfish and disrespectful actions of a group of people. They did not comply with hddvduser's wishes with respect to previous releases.

Just to fill in a few gaps, the author/seller - hddvduser has advised the region free firmware will be version 2.1 so logically you should be able to install over all current versions. Both the A30 and EP30 use the same firmware. In fact some have done binary comparisons between current A30/EP30 firmwares, and they are the same. This thread is the third one dedicated to this cause. The previous two were closed. We've all been working on getting this for some time, but the decision to release it for real, and an account for payments is a recent development. I believe that paying by Paypal gives you some protection also. If the product isn't delivered, I believe you can claim for a refund through Paypal.

Neuty, I'd already tried to PM everyone on the list. For my liking there were too many with less than five posts and a lot with only one!

I always have to have the last word (awful, I know).....when this thread is done, I'll turn out the lights

PMs don't seem to work. What do i do?

You need 5 or more posts for PMs to work. Search for the "red text thread". You can post any old rubbish there. Cheers.
