skyline7 Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) I am currently on cable foxtel and will be moving in a weeks time to a house that only has satellite so I was just wondering what the differences were between them. Also I am planning on getting foxtel hd when it comes out so am I still able to get that. Edited May 18, 2008 by skyline7
mtv Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Different decoder box is the difference (apart from a satellite dish of course) and you may not get FTA channels off satellite yet in Brisbane. Yes, you will be able to get HD off satellite, when it's available.

When you say I need a different decoder box does that mean I will lose my recordings.

You will notice that Satellite is quite a bit slower than cable when you change channels and use the menus, programme guides etc. If you are going to be getting a standard box rather than an IQ, try and fight them for the Pace 420 box which is the better of the ones Foxtel have in terms of speed and picture quality.

DansDans Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 You will notice that Satellite is quite a bit slower than cable when you change channels and use the menus, programme guides etc. Thats not true at all. The speed of channel changes and menus was nothing to do with the difference between cable and satellite but FOXTEL's use of the rebirthed legacy 720 units on satellite - which, by their nature, had slow processors hence they were slow to use. A 420 on cable and satellite shows no speed difference at all.

Thanks Guys I know 2 people with Satellite and I have cable, there ones were slower and come to think of it they had UEC boxes where as I have a Pace so that probably explains it also. I will now go and wash my mouth out with soap !
chuppa Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Easy way to make sure that you get a Pace box is to tell them you need the optical out port for your hifi system.
