pistol Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 G'day, I'm considering putting my back up player on Ebay as I need some cash at the moment. Thought I'd offer it here first to see if anyone is interested. The player has never been used. PM me offers. thanks,
the_wonderchild Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 if you can; try include some titles with it as a bundle, and i'm sure you'll get a fair price from a buyer as opposed to the abovementioned 'offer'.
gstok Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 If you need the money, list it on ebay. You'll make a nice profit. Members on here generally expect you to pay them to take goods from you.
Guest Cap'n Jack Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 $150 Members on here generally expect you to pay them to take goods from you. The sarcasm in this place adds nothing to it
AndrewW Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 $150 I can't believe I'm saying this, but I don't see the problem with this post. The seller asked for what people were willing to pay (without indicating what he was after) and cowabungadude made a reasonable offer (after all, this is what they were selling for, I know it's what I paid for mine ... the second one anyway )
gstok Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) For AndrewW's benefit, here's the last prices on eBay for EP10s. I didn't drill down into the specifics. $305 $345 $575.75 (had lots of movies too) $375 $570 $550 So does $150 still sound reasonable to you? Edited May 18, 2008 by gstok

As has been said before this isn't ebay, if people want to make a profit they should take their items to ebay. And Andrew is correct in saying that $150 is what they were selling for in the shops just before stocks ran out.

For my benefit ? This isn't ebay ... if you want to start a bidding war or sell for an inflated profit .. go and list it on ebay.
gstok Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) Thanks Andrew, you just confirmed my point. Correct, this isn't ebay. So if the seller wants to sell at MARKET PRICE instead of "I couldn't Be F*cked to get off my ass and go to a store when they were on sale, using my time and petrol" people on here then he should stay the hell away from here. Any talk of using this forum automatically having to make you "community minded" with your pricing is rubbish. Edited May 18, 2008 by gstok
djbigk1503560164 Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) I can see both sides of the arguement here. If the seller wants to get the most money for his item eBay will be the answer. Maybe they don't wish to put it on there because of having to pay the fees, or maybe they don't have an account, or don't have an account with decent feedback (some people may be worried about picking up an item that will be greater than $300 in price from someone with little or no feedback). I think it would be best though, if people are to offer items up for sale here they give a price to indicate what they are after. Sure they probably want to wait and see what offers come rolling in from desperate parties, but I don't think that this is the right place for that (everyone is welcome to their own opinions - that's mine). cowabunga seems to be a notorious low-baller. I don't think anyone could honestly expect to pick up a player for $150 now. The OP is selling his backup for money, if he's not going to get more than he paid for it, then it doesn't seem reasonable that he'll actually sell it. I'm sure he has a figure in his mind that he'd be hoping to get, all I'm saying is that if he offered it up initially it probably wouldn't be such a joke thread. You CAN'T get a player for $150 now, so to say that's the market price for one of these is ridiculous. I'd personally think around $300 would be a reasonable amount to pay. pistol Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 Well I'm sorry I posted this thread the way I did, as stated I could do with the extra cash at the moment and I thought I'd see what people were willing to pay, as I'm considering sellig it. And I was willing to sell for less than the Ebay prices. I am not a fly by forum member and have used the forum for a lot longer than HD-DVD has been around and didn't think I was abusing the forum. But oh well what ever, delete the thread if you wish.

peterjcat Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I would say that, as a general rule, if you want to sell something for more than you paid for it, take it to eBay. Otherwise you will unavoidably be seen by many as a profiteer even if it was never your intention when you bought it, and even if you really need the money. If you want to sell something for less than you paid for it, that's generally fine, even if some lucky people paid even less for it. But I would steer away from seeking expressions of interest or asking for bids. Look at eBay to see what recent items have sold for, and then make a reasonable public offer, maybe a bit lower than the eBay trend to take into account lower transaction costs and the fact that it's a community forum. Otherwise you may be seen as a profiteer even if you're just trying to help, as I'm sure you are. Just my personal view. I don't even know what the forum rules are, but I think that might be a good way to ensure harmony and goodwill among the dwindling band of HD DVD users.

cowabungadude Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 right, maybe i should have written like this? actually how about no?... the only reason people come on these forums to sell at market price (which always seems to be ebay prices) is to make ebay-type prices without the ebay-type fees. i sell stuff here and on ebay. ebay to make money, here to fellow members for prices to recoup costs. state a final price (that isn't a deliberate attempt to profiteer of other forum members yet cry when others flame me for doing this) from the start and you won't have an issue cowboy
mello yello Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 No..how about "as soon as I make up my mind Ill tell you the issue "
Volunteer Kazz Posted May 19, 2008 Volunteer Posted May 19, 2008 state a final price (that isn't a deliberate attempt to profiteer of other forum members yet cry when others flame me for doing this) from the start and you won't have an issue cowboy Exactly right, this isn't eBay if ppl want to sell their stuff ok but don't go with the make me an offer line and then treat it as an eBay auction and grab the highest bidder. State the price you want from the start or take it to eBay simple as that, believe me if the price is seen to be a ripoff you'll soon know about it. This is not a swipe at one particular person this applies to all who seem to think this forum is a substitute for eBay and there are plenty around at the moment.
pistol Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 This was an expression of interest thread, I seem to recall seeing a fair few of them over the years on here, but oh well. I don't use this forum as an easy way to sell stuff and try to help people when I can, but posting is a bit complicated for me in ways many of you wouldn't understand. I wasn't looking for Ebay prices, but to be honest after this shite I couldn't be bothered, I'll keep it. Please close or delete thread.
