scorpio1503559530 Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 hah whats wrong with Mr Antenna? Except for having to pay for them to come in for a quote... ... Cheers What's wrong for paying for a quote?
beeblebrox Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 What's wrong for paying for a quote? Nothing at all... I'd say there's something wrong with people who give free quotes (they can't be right in the head), unless it's next door or around the corner to a job you're on, you're going to spend time and money driving all over town , climbing up on a roof and testing the signal to give someone a price for likely to be a couple of hundred $ job.. Can you imagine calling a GP and asking for a quote to fix your sore throat... or ringing Microsoft for a quote to fix your windows... In my view, like most things you get what you pay for, ie if it's free what is it worth?
I am not a duck Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 What's wrong for paying for a quote? Nothing. I'll give non charged estimates over the phone based on experience, (subject to signal measurements). Or if I'm in the area, I'll do a drive by. Thankfully, Google street view* makes giving estimates easier, particularly when a customer has no idea of their house type or roof pitch. *if available

mtv Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Anyone that whinges to me about charging for my time, fuel, transport, specialised test equipment, tools, and drawing on my qualifications and decades of practical knowledge and experience, to take me away from other 'paying' work, to provide them with a quote..... I ask them if they would be happy if their employer didn't pay them at all for the work they do. I too sometimes can provide 'estimates' without a site visit, but as others have mentioned, it depends on the amount of information that can be obtained about the job.

Col, you mean you're not going to call into Katoomba from home to provide a quote..... lol !! The conversation usually goes like this (I'm sure most of the pro installers here are the same) Caller: How much to install a digital antenna? Me: Well that depends, where are you? do you have a current antenna? How old is it? Is it 1,2,3 stories, roof type/building type/ mounting and cabling options yaddah yaddah yaddah... Can you come and give me a quote on that? Sure, we charge $80 for a site test from that we can tell you how much it should be. Caller: I'll just discuss it with my wife/husband/partner/dog/therapist and get back to you. Sorry been one of those weeks... might just go and have another Jamesons

I am not a duck Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Has anyone had any probs with the PU4A reflector rusting? Yes, in coastal environments where mechanical damage has compromised the dip coating. Usually in the mounting bracket area or on a corner of the frame. Usually in this situation, the brackets are badly rusted anyway, if they haven't been protected with a coating of some type. Not to mention the elements. But they still work fine.

I am not a duck Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 What else do u have up ur sleeve M'bozo? I can't help it. Some time ago, with nothing to do, I went through most of the stuff on this forum, including the archives. Every so often, some random association occurs which might just be relevant - to something. So I may, or may not, comment.
mtv Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Col, you mean you're not going to call into Katoomba from home to provide a quote..... lol !! Actually, Katoomba is my second home, so it's not as strange as it sounds.
