It is recommended that you run this in for 40 hours even after Marantz has already run it in for 48 hrs for the new owner.

Anyway initial impressions:

Deep bass, details, immediacy and yet not over enthusiastic top. Mids not in the same league as the Roskan, which also has a more liquid treble, but the difference is not that much to justify the additional outlay.

Build quality is really solid, and you feel it will last for years. No CD text or MP3 playback.

Remote control looks like a toy. No backlit light, and small letters.

Will try SACD playback tomorrow.

Will be interested to see what you felt bout the Marantz. Am dropping by SG next week so might pick one up. But still tossing between this and a Rega Apollo though.

Ok

My first chance to sit down for a short listen.

Its quieter at night, and the mains current IMO is also cleaner.

A bit of John Williams, George Benson and we are all fine...

Equipment:

The SA 7001 KI Sig feeds the Marantz SR 12 in direct mode through some Mogami cables, and a Furatech power cable is used. The Monitor Audios are used without any subwoofer.

The key word is detail... loads of it, and it is conveyed in a calm, neutral fashion. The soundstage is very stable, and present dead centre, a little behind the plane of the speakers. Nothing stands out, and nothing is missing. The treble, mid and bass work together to create an integrated sonic picture that seems quite simply, quite alright. No character is over-emphasised and you can simply kick back and enjoy the vocals, guitars and all.

A spin of Magnificent 7 with a rather busy orchestral piece is handled well, and each individual element is discrete but yet well integrated.

The general impression is quite complete and for SING 1100, thats quite a bargain in my books.

Niggling issues:

totally crap remote! For 500 clams more the SA 15 offers a solid chassis, and a really luxurious remote, but thats a fair sum to pay to get a better set. Ken Ish. needs to look at remote control design too. Just feel and see the Toshiba XE1 remote...

Playback response is decent and loading time is ridiculously faster after you use the HD and Blu Ray players.

Sadly there is no on / off button on the remote and it is a hard off type on the CD player.

So far, all is looking well and you feel like it is well made, sound good and will last.

From memory

The Rega Planet and Apollo had a more liquid treble, and was lighter in pace and rhythm but less solid in bass. Not a lot of difference, and the sonic signature will depend on your own tastes

No, don't you think thats a little wishful mate.... ;)

I think we would be hard pressed to get anywhere near this price in Oz...

Does this include shipping, Peter?

thanks for the review.

I was actualy lookin at one of these a while ago, couldn't decide between it at the 15s1

am now going to re consider one, as my wife will be going to singapore and HK shortly.

However i am going to purchase one purely for sacd playback now just need to work out how much difference between this one the 15 and the new 11.

For the price though, i don't think you can go too far wrong with the 7001 ki
