Mycenius Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Hi all, I am helping some friends, with a Dynasat No.1 Mini STB, expand their set up from an old CRT, VCR, & the above STB to a Plasma & DVR, and I am trying to find the specs to check the output options and capabilites for connecting the above Dynasat No.1 Mini to a Panasonic DVR. (I haven't seen one first hand so don't know what they have for outputs, nor what the config options are in the O/S)? I believe they sell (or were sold) & are used in AU as well as NZ? The Dynasat website is pretty useless unfortunately and Googling only found non-specific general info or non-english stuff, or reports of problems tuning, and so on, no specifications... Can anyone help with details of output capabilities? Appreciate any info...
wahroonga farm Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 It's a satellite STB. At least the one I have is
Mycenius Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 It's a satellite STB. At least the one I have is Um, yep... Realise that... It's used for the Freeview Satellite service here in NZ. I'm trying to find out what outputs it has... i.e. S-Video, Component, SCART - if SCART does it do RGB and/orComponent over the SCART, etc, etc... As I said I'm trying to figure out what the best way (video & audio signal quality wise) to hook it up to a Panasonic DVR is... Cheers
wahroonga farm Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 It IS a Dynasat mini ... the one they gave away with a packet of cornflakes So one audio RCA and RCA Composite Y,R,W. There's an RCA rf out, but no rf in. Odd the brochure says 2 x Scart .... but not mine. So maybe there's other versions? More likely bad translation. Here's a review. PS u are in the DVB-T SD section

PS u are in the DVB-T SD section Yep - wasn't questioning that it wasn't, just that I know it's a satellite unit, and yeah realise its a cheap unit Thanks for the output information and the link - that's excellent. Re: PS - Not sure what or where you are seeing thread but to me I have posted in/and can see thread in Digital TV Receivers & Related Products > SD Set Top Box Receivers which has no apparant distinction between satellite and terrestial SD STBs... So AFAICS I'm in the right place...? Cheers
wahroonga farm Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 (edited) ... So AFAICS I'm in the right place...? I guess your right. It doesn't get much focus and it's probably poor Forum layout or misunderstanding. Note that there's no 'FTA Satellite TV'. Most people in Aussie don't know that Aussie (Optus) Pay and FTA satellite is digital and as has been since the launch of the B series satellites. The analog RABS (now Aurora) satellite TV service was upgraded to digital in 1998. Oh and Foxtel told them they'd been 'upgraded' to digital in 2004 when it 'launched digital', despite the fact that it's been digital since 1996. Edited May 13, 2008 by wahroonga farm

Right - yes I was a bit surprised there wasn't a T & S distinction but couldn't see anything so assumed one forum area for all STBs just divided by definition instead (SD v. HD)? Oh and Foxtel told them they'd been 'upgraded' to digital in 2004 when it 'launched digital', despite the fact that it's been digital since 1996. Sounds like soem of the smoke SKY blows back here in NZ occassionally too - nothing wrong with a bit of obfuscation, right...? One last question on the Dynasat if I may - so there is definitely no SCART plug at all, just the single Composite Video RCA set? Oh, and the RF output is definitely actually an RCA socket, not a standard RF style one? Appreciate the help...
