Hi all,

i got this system just over 18 months ago and although its not a $1000 + system, it actually has given great service for the first 16 months. Not only a reciever also acts as a dvd player, that has played most dvds/divxs etc etc.

anyways, 2 months ago it started making a large whirring sound upon start up for the first minute or two & now it is "switching" from dvd/cd player mode to different modes when loading particular discs...

I have called panasonic who have given me the closest repairer, but stated that it is outside of the first 12 warranty and they will determine whether or not they will fix it for free on inspection.

Considering it was still $899 - a brand such as panasonic - you would think it would work for perhaps beyond a year... so with my current position, should i take it back and hope they repair it free, or cop the expense of the repair, or perhaps see if panasonic will upgrade me to their newer reciever for a cheaper rate..

im a bit skeptical as to getting another panasonic unit if this is the life of the product though.

ps.. i only have a small fairly inexpensive unit, as i live in an apartment and space and noise can be an issue, so no point having a marantz with massive speakers when i cant take full advantage of the power....

so if anyone has advice or tips on what i should do or try upgrade to would be advantagous...

could i use the current speakers and upgrade the head unit of this http://panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?objectID=4293

but that would require me complaining enough to panasonic and asking them to break up a package which i dont see them doing.

if i just upgraded to a 7.1 reciever, i could do that if allowed to - but then i lose the dvd player portion of the system....
