Theres Always Radio Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 (edited) Poor old AlanH is going to go nuts over people wanting individual reception complaint advice on the "Get the best reception" pinned post and clogging it up. For all the genuine people who have just a fleeting interest in this forum and can't generate a new topic themselves to sort their problems because of the forums spamming restrictions, here you go! Who knows, if it works it might get pinned as well. Edited May 9, 2008 by James T Kirk
alanh Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 James, Thanks, The thing which annoys me the most is those who do not go to the geographic viewers' forum first. It is not helped that the fact that the viewers' forum is near the bottom of the home page. and the warning at the start of the Antenna strand. As far as pinning goes you need to contact Caniffe and ask. AlanH
charlesc Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 James, I know you said "just a fleeting interest in this forum" in your note above, but there is provision for new users to get their post count up quite quickly by going to the special threads designed for just this purpose. Making five quick test posts is probably not a lot to ask even if their interest is fleeting. If they are going to get some free advice and assistance, that's probably a small ask. What I think is surprising is how little the New Topic option is actually used by people posting in the Geographical Viewers Forums. Most people just add their request onto the end of the pages and pages of other requests, comments and answers that are the Pinned: Get The Best Reception...(by area) threads. By adding their new requests onto that pinned one, it becomes very long and arduous to go through. IMO it would be much better left as a pinned thread for Get The Best Reception...(by area), with individual requests in New Topics. That would really help people looking for advice, they can just scan down the topics. If they need to search, they can still do that (as long as they are not a new user) .
Theres Always Radio Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 (edited) Hi Charlesc Yes I get what you mean. I'm a bit of a cynic though, it's a bit like a walk through the park and making the choice between the longer paved footpath from a to b or a short cut through the garden bed, the result is always trampled flowers. I suppose what prompted me to suggest this was that it seems quite common for new enquirers not to know what to do and their post ends up anywhere because they want a quick result, as you say. It is surprising that there are so few complaints here about DTV in SE Qld anyway. I think it shows how non representative this forum is of reality. Anyone who uses this forum as a measuring stick is under a false sense of security methinks, the fun will really start as the threat of analogue being turned off becomes a reality. Anyway, I consider you are far more familiar with this forum and its operation than I and so I'll take your advice and not "top it up" again. Cheers James Edited June 10, 2008 by James T Kirk
charlesc Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 ....I suppose what prompted me to suggest this was that it seems quite common for new enquirers not to know what to do and their post ends up anywhere because they want a quick result, as you say....and so I'll take your advice and not "top it up" again. Your post sits nicely atop the two New Topic threads in the Brisbane Geographical Viewers Forum, so is very visible in any case. The post and subject line is probably not a bad idea at all, especially if it gets used. Time will tell on that. Better in yours than elsewhere. I think you are quite right about the 'measuring stick'. The forum users here are likely to be only a small part of the larger mass.
Phibes Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I couldn't start my own thread, but I've got some issues with SBS reception at home.. For some reason the SD TV upstairs gets a much better quality SBS SD picture than the TV that is downstairs; it's still not perfect though. I was just wondering why this could be the case, is it because the outlet is closer to the external antenna? That's what I thought. And also, downstairs on the HD LCD, SBS HD doesn't even show up, SBS SD doesn't show up in the Digital List Either, I have to revert the mode back to the old style to actually be able to find SBS but like I said before, it's bad quality. I was thinking that I should just buy a new antenna and have it positioned a lot higher up than our current one, also I noticed our current antenna is missing a couple of the small metal rods.... All channels are ok, except for SBS, BRIZ 31, and the lack of SBS HD... I live in Wishart btw. Hopefully someone can help me, Thanks
Theres Always Radio Posted June 19, 2008 Author Posted June 19, 2008 Phibes I think you have hit the nail on the head. If your SBS analogue and Briz 31 are poor theres a good chance your SBS SD and HD will be in trouble. Put the above together with an antenna known to have bits missing and again your decision to get a new antenna is sound. There may even be problems with cable and splitters to investigate. If you feel comfortable doing this yourself, check out the advice threads on reception and you'll find some suggestions on the type of antenna to try, otherwise try a local established antenna installer. Cheers James
