MisterZ Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I'm really upset. My mother recently had a problem with a recording of 'Canal Road' on her IQ - whenever she selected the program, the box would shut off and reboot. All other recordings (both before and after that one) worked fine, the box had 50% space free, and no prior problems. I suggested she simply delete the recording. Well, after doing this, she then lost *everything* on the IQ. I couldn't believe my ears at first. Apparantly, the IQ just went down the list and deleted the recordings one by one. I feel so bad - she had at least 10 on there, but she actually took it pretty well. If it happened to my IQ I would have been PISSED. Anyway, has anyone heard of anything like this happening before? I'm really scared now!

Fordys Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 (edited) Actually mine has just started to do the same thing. It didnt delete all the recordings but did shut down the IQ and reboot when a couple of recorded programs were selected. They have since been deleted without any probs, but should I wait for the new IQ box/HD information or just make then replace it now?? Edited May 9, 2008 by Fordys

On the unit itself press back and select at the same time When all the lights come on press --> Power, up, down, power

I'm really scared now! I had one that was doing a similar thing, when the problem first started it would re-start itself playing anything new but old recordings still worked, however after a couple of days it'd re-start no matter I tried to play - I got it replaced. Don't worry about feeling bad, there's a fair chance it wouldn't have played most of the stuff your Mum had recorded anyway. Call foxtel, tell them you've reset it blah blah blah and get it replaced.

I'm really scared now! This sounds very odd - just out of curiousity, she didnt keep pressing the delete button (yellow button isnt it?) when she was on Canal Road thinking that the first time she pressed it it wasnt working (i remember with bad recordings they usually freeze up for a second before deleting) - This probably would explain it going through the list and deleting all items one by one. Its been a while since I've used an IQ - doesnt it confirm with you before it deletes the program?
doodlefeatures Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 ...Its been a while since I've used an IQ - doesnt it confirm with you before it deletes the program? Only when you've set a recording to 'keep' does it confirm before deleting
emibel Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Only when you've set a recording to 'keep' does it confirm before deleting Yes, I've always that was a silly design decision. Delete confirmation should be the default.

emibel Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Would this wipe everything else we have stored on the hard drive?? No, unless you have a really strange malfunction. Only a format of the drive (which needs a special code to get into the installation menu) should do that.
