MC DUI Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Hey Guys Hoping you could help me with setting up my Harmony 785. At the moment I'm trying to get it to run the "Watch DVD" activity. It turns on the AV Receiver, DVD player and the TV, but it doesn't set the TV to the right AV. I tried hitting help and going to the TV AV setting part, it asks if the AV menu is up, I say YES, it then asks if the AV menu is on page 2, I say YES, then it asks if everything is fixed? It never actually changes to AV4 which is my receivers AV??? I keep trying but it gets stuck at the help area asking if the AV menu is on page 2? I put it back onto the USB on my computer and tell the program that the remote is having trouble finding the AV, it states ok here delete the un-necessary AV connections which I did, it then reloading the remote and I gave it a whirl... Nope no good, it turns the TV on and doesn't even go to the AV setting it's just on TV? Any help would be much appreciated, I thought this thing was going to be easy but I'm about ready to punt the thing!!! BTW I've got the following TV - Panasonic TH-50PV500A Also if somebody could tell me how to add additional activities on the program that would be great, at the moment all I've got is watch PVR and watch DVD, once those have been troubleshooted the program is telling me it's finished....
50mxe20 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Open up your profile on the web page and go to troubleshoot. It should prompt you for 4 things. The last one is the setting of the correct input. Make the necessary changes, save and update the remote. Although it looks like you have tried this? It may be that AV4 is not defined. If that is the case it needs to be. Unfortunately I have never worked how to edit the inputs to make this work. If this is the case, a quick telephone call to Logitech support and they will sort it out quick smart. There should be an "add new activity" at the beginning too. Don't have the 785 but just reconfigured my 520 and 880 and they are all pretty much the same.
Shonky* Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Not sure about a TV that old, but the newer panasonics (e.g my 42PX7A) have "discrete codes" which allow it to jump directly to the channel. That sounds like what you need if possible. My 785 defaulted to jumping through inputs which is a waste of time IMO since it causes way too many problems. I can't remember the steps to do it exactly though. Worst case call the support line. They are quite helpful and should be able to sort you out.
diesel Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 I do remember some guys who had the PV500 setting up a PV60A or PX600A on their Harmony's and it gave them access to the discrete HDMI codes. I have a PX600 and all the inputs are changed to directly via discrete codes, no need to scroll pages.
Phorte Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 check the logitech support as well as the forums. there is a LOT of information on the official logitech forums, specific to tv issues. i had issues changing through my samsung's inputs too and sifting through the forums resolved them. http://forums.logitech.com/logitech?catego...remote_controls
MC DUI Posted May 9, 2008 Author Posted May 9, 2008 (edited) I think I have sorted it out, I went into troubleshooting again, and it asked me the same questions, then it gave me a different option around changing the power on time for my TV and the AV change response time. I had a guess at the numbers and the activities now seem to work ok. I still think I need to do a whole bunch of tweeking with it but it seems to be functioning right. Might be better off as you guys state finding the discrete codes. One other question the power on/off button doesn't seem to power down my TV. I have to scroll a couple of pages on the LCD screen to find the power off option, is this normal? EDIT - Silly question is there anything you can do about TV's that sit in the same area that use the same remote codes? I've got the 50" Pana Plasma as my main TV for watching TV/DVD/Foxtel etc. and I have a 32" Pana LCD for playing games when the Mrs is watching TV. They both seem to respond to the same remote codes so if the wife turns on/off the big TV it affects my TV as well, unless you point it very directly at the big TV. (Note this was an issue before the Harmony) Edited May 9, 2008 by MC DUI

(Note this was an issue before the Harmony) The Power Off button only works for ending activities, not if you start up in Device mode. If it's not powering off in an Activitiy then I suggest you need to check/adjust the power setup through the software again. As for same codes for the two TV's, I think you are out of luck there. All the Harmony does is replicate theoriginal remotes commands. so if both TV's respond to thye same command, short of sticking some cardboard over the IR sensor of the smaller TV or moving it into another room, it is what it is.

(Note this was an issue before the Harmony) I just fixed (last night) a problem with my remote where it turned 2 Panasonic DVD players on and off. I changed the id code on one device and it fixed it. It's all a matter of checking your manual and seeing of this is an option.

Thanks for the reply. You're right, I was trying to use the power off button on the TV when I hadn't started it using an activity. Yeah I'm not going to move the TV, I keep it there to play games and watch TV at the same time.
