ratty05 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Hi Knowledgable ones! I'm building a new house and have some HT room questions. The HT room will run off the main living area with one of those double sided gas log fires in the wall in bewtween, can I hang my 50" pioneer plasma above this or will heat be an issue? Secondly, in the HT room I'll hopefully be running a TW2000 (wife said no to the GB until the house is built) with all my current gear (Yamaha 2700, Panasonic DMR ex87 DVD/HDD recorder, Harmon Kardon 7.1 speakers, PS3), but I'd also like the plasma hooked up to this aswell so that I can watch DVD's and use the second zone on the amp to run some stereo speakers for the living room. How can I control it using the current remotes from the living area if the gear is in the HT room? Oh, I'm also using a harmony 1000i remote Finally (for now) I assume I'll need a HDMI splitter to watch both the projector and the plasma at the same time? Thanks!
petetherock Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Hi Just one point from me Having the flatscreen so close to a pair of heat sources is bad. Cheers

I too would not mount a Plasma near heat. Yes you will need a 4 in 2 out switicher/splitter.
50mxe20 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Over or neat fire places is NOT recomended. Finally (for now) I assume I'll need a HDMI splitter to watch both the projector and the plasma at the same time? OR, a new AVR.
ratty05 Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 OK, I take it the plasma above the heater is a no go (all those cunning magazine pictures don't mention it's no good for the TV!). Anyone have any tips on how I can sort out the remote control issue i.e. running the one lot of equipment from a completely different room?
petetherock Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 You may wish to explore IR repeaters for remotes, or if it is possible, maybe just some mirrors? Did that in a 2 room setup adjacent to one another...

Optical cable. There is a solution available but it is meant for one appliance only so setting up the other end (where the equipment is) will be tricky, or it might only work for 1 maybe 2 as this end usually needs to be pointed at the receiving IR sensor.
