Have just bought a 70000 which is fitted with March 2007 firmware that I am trying to update.

Have tried two USB sticks and I keep getting the same error "Could not find USM media"

Any suggestions?

Did you follow the following procedure?

http://forum.itopfield.com.au/Topic3992-35-1.aspx

Update Procedure

A. Obtain Firmware

Download a firmware file, unzip if necessary and place the firmware file (eg. 0.84.00.upd) in the root directory of a USB stick (not in a folder) that is formatted with a FAT file system. Read any instructions included with the firmware.

B. Install Firmware

1. Turn on the PVR.

2. Select the Menu > Installation > Transfer Firmware > Update from USB option.

3. When the Caution window displays then insert the USB stick containing the firmware.

4. Select Yes and press OK to commence the installation.

During the firmware up-date the PVR will turn off and on and one or more partitions will be erased and updated however no existing recordings will be lost and no existing settings altered.

Note if the USB stick containing the firmware is inserted before turning on the PVR may (except for early firmware versions) automatically perform the firmware update. If an Auto update does not start after several minutes then go to standby and then follow the instructions numbered 1 - 4 above.

Recommended Options

The base procedure is all that is necessary to update the firmware however to ensure the smooth running of the firmware a factory reset is recommended via the Menu > Installation > Factory Setting function.

Normally a reset should only be necessary if issues are noticed following a firmware update or an attempt is being made to resolve other issues. In some cases a cold reboot (ie turn off the PVR and turn off the mains or disconnect the power lead for a minute before turning on the PVR) may be beneficial to resolve issues.

Extended Firmware Install Procedure

1. Perform base procedure as above.

2. Perform Factory Setting reset.

3. Reset options and (if not saved with firmware from 0.99.29) rescan services and recreate any timers and favorites.

Note further steps can be included, such as a preliminary reset and cold reboots after the firmware in installed and/or after the post install reset as desired.

ALSO

USB Memory stick not recognised

Make sure it is formatted as FAT or FAT32

Yes followed it to the letter ,I think.
Hmmm. I vaguely remember reading something about certain usb drives being a problem, especially the larger ones maybe.

BUT I'm not positive.

The format is very important though!

I'm off to buy another flash drive the two that I've been using are pretty old .

I will keep you posted.

My son uses them at uni and we've got one that works fine on every computer we've owned but will not work at uni so there are obviously subtle differences.

Have now tried 4 USB sticks and the above formating tool with no success.

Also tried different upgrade procedures with no luck.

Rang iTopfield service who are sending me their flash drive with the firmware pre loaded.

Apparently I have one of the old units(white box, which did no include USB drive.)

I bought one last weekend and had the same problem. Mine included the USB stick with the firmware on it.

I tried the included usb and another one I had. Neither worked.

However, my fix was fairly simple. I just restarted the toppy and then it recognised the original usb. I also didn't use the usb extension cable that came with it.

Have you tried a factory reset? That might help.

Good luck.

Even tried downloading software from 2nd computer etc.

Waiting for USB if that does not work I will take it in to their service dept to do.

You are having strange problems. I have used a 2GB "Cruzer" "SanDisk" "U3 smart" made in China bought from Officeworks without any difficulty on both 7000's here. But obviously there are USBs & USBs! I had similar problems using a USB to RSC 232 adaptor on the HP notebook - the first refused to work with the HTM cord but the second Belkin one works fine.

As if all this was not challenging enough without these problems. Please let us know if you do get any USB to work and what it is so we know to advise others who strike similar problems.

Once you get it updated you should be pleased - it is a very ergonomic machine. The "skip" function is lightening fast and soon demolishes the ads.

Never a truer word spoken John :D

The 7000's file navigation speed is phenomenal, skipping ads is the best part

just to update.

Topfield sent me their USB stck with the software pre loaded and lo and behold it worked first go.

I have no explanation.

Anyways thanks to Topfield for sending it.

Other than the firmware upgrade hassle I have not had any problems with the machine.

Only small gripe I have is that the timer dispay does not show scheduled programs by name when you copy from the EPG.

But I think you need PBK for that which is never goinh to happen.
