darockk Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 im hearing reports that GTA4 is causing PS3's to freeze up and the PS3 can not even load up the game even after a reboot. Apparently the only way to fix this issue is to delete your game save files and start all over again. The issue is pretty common so im guessing it wont be long for someone on here to encounters this problem.
IndyJnr Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Happened to me, wasn't working for about 2 hours until I turned off the internet conection and then it worked. I would very disappointed if i had to delete my saved games. Tonight i will be backing them up.
HTPCFreak Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 I've read somewhere that disabling "auto-save" can help with this problem as well.
JohnSof Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 It happened to me, I disabled internet connection and the game loaded. Re-enabled internet connection and even played online with no issues.
BFOT Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Hopefully we'll see a patch in the coming days to sort this out.
Louie Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 My understanding was the issue was mostly (if not completely) due to an online issue, and that the problem was caused by being signed into the PSN, perhaps their servers couldn't handle the huge load on release day, which would make sense if they didn't prepare fully for the huge amount of people buying/playing online. This really has been the only issue with freezing on the station I've come across, but like everything in life, something is bound to go wrong, they can't garuantee a faultless product because it is almost impossible to do.
DansDans Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 1) Why are you starting another GTAIV thread for? 2) Did you even bother to check this http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtop...80&start=80 thread where people are already discussing it 3) You've "heard" reports. So you havent had this issue. Are you just trying to troll?

So you havent had this issue. Are you just trying to troll? Chill out man if people start a thread and its already being discussed elsewhere the thread will just sift to the bottom and disappear. Incidently I have had it happen to me lots of times. I played it for a few hours no problems then came back the next day and had it freeze on me either loading the game up from the start, or within a minute into the game once loaded maybe 12-15 times. Tried again next day and did the same. Ive played it on two separate times since then and had no problems at all so no idea whats going on but I was signed in to the PSN everytime ive played. Just hoping it doesnt happen to often.
GEoMaNTiK Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Yep I've had GTA freeze up on loading, then during the game I noticed what I thought was a 1-2 second pause, however it had frozen and I had to power off/on. The beta testers should have their butts kicked for this, though it is a massive project, imagine all the guys behind this trying to find the probs, huge task!!! Great game though, very happy overall and still give it a 10/10 for the game, because the pausing will be fixed soon.
Sicarius123 Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 I've had no problems with mine. Apparently they're meant to be completing a patch for both the 360 and PS3 versions today.

So you havent had this issue. Are you just trying to troll? 1) Although there are already numerous GTA4 threads, each one covers a specific topic. 2) No I did not check out that thread purposely because from the thread title, it appears to contain potential spoilers for the game. I still will not check that thread out. I did read every OTHER GTA4 thread though and nothing was mentioned there. I did check first before starting the thread. 3) Yes I've heard reports. I haven't received my copy of the game yet and thus was wondering if the issue was true so that I can be warned when I start my game, as there may be some preparation done before hand so I dont encounter the same problem and lose precious game saves. I dont even know what 'trolling' means.
Nando Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 commented this on another GTA thread.. but must say...that disabling network access on my PS3 seemed to do the job.. have been playing with no freezing issues.. again my problems for me started when i wanted to do multiplayer...
Sicarius123 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Well there's a new patch this morning, so hopefully it fixes it.
JohnSof Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/05/07/gta-iv...freezing-fixed/ freezing NOT fixed yet.
darockk Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 Shoulda baught an xbox............... You can't get GTAIV on the xbox, but if it's the xbox 360 you're referring to, then i believe the 360 version also has the same problem but not as common. im hoping they fix the issue before i get the game. p.s i do have an xbox 360 but i chose to buy the PS3 version.

FMB Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 My son bought GTA IV for the PS3 and was playing it when it suddenly froze mid-game. He re-booted the PS3 and it wouldn't load the game or any other game. It wouldn't even load a BD movie. It would play games which had been downloaded to the HDD. Due to renovations underway at the time, he did not have it connected to the internet although the internet connection was turned on in settings. Does this sound like the same problem or has the optical drive in my PS3 died? I told him about the fixes listed here last night, but I'm not sure he did them properly. He was concerned about the game while I'm only concerned about the PS3. I'm no PS3 expert (I only use it to play movies). Can someone give me specific instructions as to the steps to go through to try to fix the problem. TIA
Sicarius123 Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Do a backup of the PS3 and reset it to factory defaults, if it still doesn't work call Sony, sounds like the optical drive.

Called Sony today and it's going for repair Monday. Google "PS3 not playing discs" and you'll fine that return is the only option for this one unfortunately Although seems weirdly related to GTA4 in this case... even though mine had been patched to get around the freezing issue.
