Blu Ray Bargains Thread

Well they must've missed BIg W at Fountain Gate completely as the had SFA for the entire sale

i guess there is no point in trying to explain how processes at big w work - cause thats what im trying to do...trying to explain...not defend...or say you are wrong - no mass merchant retailer is as good at store execution for brochures and advertisements than big w

go into kmart and its a complete mess, same with target...they try to sell customers a shrek dvd for 12.99 and say it was "32.99" - yet it hasnt been that price since it was released...

jbhifi are excellent at what they do - but they a specialty store - so you'd expect it...

Big w must be doing something right though if they have the most market share for dvd's...even better than jb - believe it or not...

You're on thin ice now.

I've probably bought 80% of my 600+ DVD collection from kmart, and maybe 5% from BigW.

Mainly because Kmart carry more stock and have better prices.

and to say ur store didnt replenish at all - that is a lie/assumption - you have no way of proving that at all...did u spend every hour of every day at the store did u??

No I didn't, and funnily enough no other retailer has ever suggested that I should have to to buy a product that is advertised for sale,

And calling me a lier, that is very nice indeed

For your information I visited the store 4 or 5 times during the sale period, and there was less stock on display each time I went.

Combined with the reply I got each time I asked "we're not getting any more in", what conclusion am I supposed to come to ?

I had a copy of Shooter put on hold at BigW, then went in to pick it up & it was gone, they sales guy said more would come in & he would put one aside for me & took my name & number.............................but guess what, BigW never called back. I guess they never replenished their copies  luckily I went to JB that day & got it from them instead :P

well your one of a few then...

big w has dominated dvd market share for a while...and was 2nd behind 'you can guess who' for the past 2-3 years...

kmart has 2 trestle tables at the front of their store and called that their dvd sale....

even target is better than kmart...kmarts like 4th down the ladder...

even if kmart carried more stock, they dont make a lot of money by carrying that extra stock...whys that u say? because to make money you have to sell throu stock to make money.... big w wouldnt have made records profit and sales for the past 2 years if it did things like kmart do...

well i guess ur not meant to come to any other conclusion - i apologies on behalf of all big w for your troubles faced...

stores informed you incorrectly if thats what u were told - its not what support office instructed stores to tell customers if we were out of stock temporarily...

For the purpose of clarification, what is your relationship to Big W?

close - but not close enough

for clarification - lets just say i know alot about what is being discussed/debated here...

So is it your screw up that meant stores didn't carry stock of the titles that were advertised? If not, does the guy sit close by and can you please slap him on the nose for me (and for us I suppose)?

Personally, if I worked for the store that let down customers as badly as this I'd come here holding a white flag with words of contrition dripping from your fingers. I think insulting people (i.e. customers) for expecting advertised prodcuts to actually be on shelves is silly and I'd suggest, when it comes to customer relations it might be you who "doesn't (seem to) know anything".

But that's just how I'd do it.

yeah fair enough - as a customer i spose id have similar thoughts to you guys - my only point was to try and explain reasons as to why this may have seemed that way...

customers only want stock on the shelves - thats all they should have to care about...which is fair enough

its not my screw up personally - as i said, for things that did go wrong, it would be several factors that would have lead to these 'stuff ups'

despite what today tonight and other ACA shows might suggest, retailers arent here to screw you all and make 100% mark up on everything

we dont increase margins by a percentage to make money at the petrol station...and we dont slowly increase margins over the years to make more and more money...it just doesnt happen like its so often documented by the media...

Not suggesting it was devious or dishonest, just that it was a pain in the @rse. Appreciate the sentiments even if the delivery was pretty sloppy ;).

i defend it because i am one of many in the team who organised this - it was a huge success- depsite the few customer complaints which will always occur - why dont u try go to kmarts "SALE" and find stock there?

no one person is responsible for the lack of stock for some titles in some stores - at least 40 ppl in the support office would have contributed to the planning of such a brochure - from all areas of the business...

i could list several contributing factors....

dvd stock for all large retailers is VMI, which means it vendor managed inventory - the supplier monitors stock and creates orders and delivers it store direct - all we do here is monitor it... it could have been a combination of things that lead to the stock issues your stating occurred in melbourne city... no one did it on purpose if there was short supply, or if demand for titles were under-estimated

your forgetting that its in our best interest to sell as much as we can, why would we kick ourselves in the arse by not having stock? if we foresaw the issues you guys are stating, they would have been fixed...unfortunately because blu-ray is new and rarely promoted - its kind of hard to judge how well things will go in terms of sales... and even if we did predict the demand to an exact sales figure...there would still have been transport/stock issues - its inevitable...

Thank you aussie style for at least clearing up your invovlment and the reason of being defensive on BigW's behalf.

I know **** happens and most good intentions can fall apart. But in this case there are obviously lots of unhappy customers(I btw got in the first morning and picked up all I wanted and more). But what I did notice that on consecutive visits over the next week that I did not see any re-stocking,this was at Southland.Though I'm sure that dvd sales went great guns with lots of happy customers

Thank goodness Ezydvd at least picked up and helped out any dissappointed customers by matching the sale price.

Maybe next time things may turn out better for everyone invovled and there will be more winners and smiles

Well, if you were involved and had a position in making it happen then despite the fact I only got one title from you and had to get the other two through some hard pushing on a price match through a different store (JB), Thankyou for the sale. Yeah it was dificult to get the titles cause demand was so huge, but thats life. It was a great sale. I look forward to more of them and an increased range in the stores.

Thanks!

Maybe in this case to keep the natives happy you could get someone unpopular from the dept and make a scapegoat out of him.

Blindfold , last ciggy and all.

Maybe then we'd be a little happier

Marketing :P

I doubt it.

Someone with even a hint of marketing experience would not introduce himself to his customers by calling them "silly" and then proceed to accuse them of being "liers".

So the AUS version is the best (well the longest then) compared to the UK and US versions of Casino Royal ?

if my memory serves me correct, the AU version is something like half a minute longer and apparently is uncensored within a certain scene that i won't spoil.

Australian and Finnish are uncut
