Gio Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Hi there, I am considering singing up with SELECT TV using a MEDIASTAR DW-820PVR Recorder with Satellite and Terrestrial digital tuners. Can anyone tell me; 1. Can you go over to FOXTEL (using their "sim" card) on the mediastar box? 2. Is the said box a "good" one? 3. Is there anyone not happy with SELSCT TV? I consider $29.95 pretty good value for money considering what you are getting. I would really like it if FOXTEL were to go with a "Pick Your Own Channels" package for say $30.00 for "X" amount of channels and then charge for every "X" amount of channels you choose thereafter, rather than saying well here is your basic package Like it or Lump it. Cheers
DrP Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 1. Can you go over to FOXTEL (using their "sim" card) on the mediastar box? No.
Gio Posted May 5, 2007 Author Posted May 5, 2007 Thought as much. I assume you have to use their box? Or is it that they dont use Irdetto??
chatham Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Foxtel doesn't use Irdeto, it uses NDS, for which there is no readily available 3rd party set top box for the consumer.
Keepleft Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 You could use a Dragon Cam or T Rex from memory, but this involves mild technical know how. . http://www.sattronics.net/catalog/product_...;products_id=54 The Mediastar DW-820PVR is an excellent choice for SelecTV and can be used with Austar Irdeto cards too if your rural. I'd consider installing a fixed dish that allows you to 'see' several Ku band satellites, further enhancing your viewing potential for free to air content. Example a T90, see links. You'd then add services from Optus B3 (Russia Today/Press TV and much more), C1 (Al Jazeera), Optus D1 for ABC and SBS from all states, 7 Central etc, all FTA. Its good to have those ABC's - one can watch 'localised' news from Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin, Melbourne and Sydney - you have ABC anbd ABC2 from each jurisdiction on D1. Then you have C Band:-) (Need yard space etc, typically a delightful black mesh see-through design about 2.4-3.0metre diameter). Your box is capable of much as a consumer item. It is handy to be able to edit chanel names, skip and delete etc. Rescan SelecTV when a channel is added. http://www.toroidal.co.nz/ http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Satellite-Dish-Toro...6QQcmdZViewItem

Can anyone tell me; 1. Can you go over to FOXTEL (using their "sim" card) on the mediastar box? If the card has NDS written on it, NO. If you receive FOX via Austar, YES 2. Is the said box a "good" one? Currently there's nothing really like it on the market. For what it dose it's excellent. The only Pay-TV box with direct Component output. I heard 200GB HDD with HDMI (same as the 9022) is coming in July 3. Is there anyone not happy with SELSCT TV?I consider $29.95 pretty good value for money considering what you are getting. Cheers You won't see any such deal from fox unless their sub's number droop in big numbers. ps. Click underline text for more info.
