sulimo Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 http://kotaku.com/gaming/rrraagghhh/micros...unts-257658.php Gamerscore sends word that, starting with the Spring Update, Microsoft will be beefing up the territorial restrictions on the 360's marketplaces. Seems some of you cheeky monkeys are still trying to get around the regional restrictions on certain content, and Microsoft aren't too pleased. While they've tried squeezing this practice out previously, this is the first time I've seen them actually put it in black & white. Your XBL accounts are going to be locked to the region your console is: any accounts created that try and say otherwise will only be allowed to download content from your console's region. They explain it away with the usual chatter about licencing and rights, etc, but, yeah, sick of that. The fact that the TMNT arcade game is available in New Zealand (where I had to download my demo) and not Australia is farcical, as is the lack of any HD movie downloads outside of the US since, last time I checked, we could buy those movies off the shelf here. Europe, too. And Canada. Microsoft, instead of cracking down on "international accounts", you might want to work on fixing the reason people were doing it in the first place. And if you are, you might want to work a little harder. I guess that seems pretty annoying, though not surprising.
Hydrology Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Fair comments regarding the Video Marketplace. They dont seem to be working hard enough to bring this level of quality experience to the second class parts of the world. Ive admired M$ responses to the community with the launch of the 360, but with this and launching a HDMI-enabled machine (when they said HDMI wasnt required) has dimished them somewhat in my mind.

Well...given the Elite reviews I've seen I'm still of the view that HDMI isn't needed. As for me...I'm not sure how I feel about the 360...I had been waiting for a quieter/cooler revision, but I got sick of waiting (well that and a few other no-game issues). Now with my PS3, about the only thing gnawing at me (aside from missing out on Fable2) is the rollout of XBLA games that I'm quite interested in (the euro board games for instance). I'm not sure what I'll do. Just live with it...get myself a revised 360 in the new year..or hope Live For Windows picks up more XBLA games. Certainly the latter would be my preferred choice, but I really have no idea what MS plans to do with Live For Windows. It has Uno...which is one XBLA game that I was really keen on.

While I never expected the HDMI out of an Elite to better component video, its more the convenience of video switching that would be the seller for me. But Im not buying a new console just for HDMI.
davep Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 to be fair to MS (cough), fans have been asking for HDMI since Day 1, albeit more in the form of a HDMI cable/convertor rather than a new console.

Exactly, and I know its been covered before, but there was always the talk about whether the insides of the Premium/Core units could carry HDMI. We will probably never get an honest answer, as bringing out an updated console would be more of a money spinner for M$ than a simple adaptor.
