duncangel Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Okay, about 10 years ago we bought a Denon-AVR-2800 Receiver for quite a bit of a price (~$2000) maybe. Now I'm planning to use that again with my home theatre bedroom set up. I'm just wondering how this compares to a $600-$900 (i.e. Denon 1707) receiver that is new on the market at the moment. I would guess that my current receiver is now worth less than this amount right? So within 10 years, how much technology comes out? Would I lose a lot of the special features? Plus the remote looks ugly by the way. ALSO The guy from the store said that if I get a 7.1ch receiver, then I can hook the 'rear' cables also in the front speakers (because i'm using a 2.1 setup) to get extra clarity? Should I take this into account as well? ALSO Is there an easier way of listening to music from computer to home theatre speakers, other than using a networked media player such as Ziova? Thanks
RayW Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 Hi Duancangel I have the same AVR Denon2800 and is also thinking at upgrading. But looking at the HD/BR player eg Toshiba XA2, 5.1 channel analogue output is still a feature with onboard Dolby digital/ truehd and DTS so I am not sure if we can write this amp off yet . Any thought ?

RayW Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Sorry don't actually understand. What's the HD/BR player got to do with anything? But yeah, our receiver can still work for it definitely! my point is that although AVR 2800( MK2 which is the model i have ) does not have all the decorder ability, is still compatible with the latest source machine as long as your just need a 5.1 set up. The new technology it misses can be found on the source machine ( HD/BR DVD player ) So IMO you don't have to condemn this amp to the bedroom and i would serious doubt that the 1707 would be any superior in sound quality.
