I have had the Polk Audio satellite speaker and subwoofer package for a few years now and had it hooked up with 16 gauge speaker wire as the manual suggests using the Basic Speaker Set up where you have the Front Left and Right speakers going directly into Subwoofer and then an output from the subwoofer direct to the Front Left and Right Amplifier in. Its worked great and very happy with sound.

I've just moved house and the previous owners theatre room has already installed speaker wire attached to ceiling and coming out of the wall. The speaker wireis way thicker than I've currently got. Not sure what gauge, I think the number gets less doesn't it? Anyhow, where the cables come out of the wall, its almost directly in the middle of the front wall where the entertainment unit is. Of course I want to have the subwoofer sitting to the side of the entertainment unit, but the wire only comes out of the wall about a foot or so. So I cant use basic wire set up to go direct to Sub unless I connect my 16 gauge cable with some electrical tape to the current thicker wire and extend it.

There is another option of Parallel wire setup which has all the speakers going to the Amp and the subwoofer doubling up connecting to the Amp into the same inputs as the Front Left and Right. The Polk Audio manual recommends Basic set up for the best "Blending" but not sure what that means.

So what should I do, extend the cables even though I don't have the same Gauge wire, or use Parallel Setup?? Do you think I'll notice much difference using Parallel? What is Blending??

Also, the current cables aren't labelled in anyway so I have no idea whats Left/Right Front or Back. Is there any quick way I can test one at a time?? I'm worried about hooking it up wrong and blowing up the speakers or something!!

Look forward to some advice.

Thanks

Mossy
